Edith Bowman has admitted the truth behind rumours that she was romantically involved with Cat Deeley in the past.
The radio presenter addressed stories surrounding her and close friend Cat who she recently started a podcast with.
Speaking on Angela Scanlon’s Thanks a Million podcast Edith, 48, confessed that she was platonically “in love” with SM:TV host Cat, 45.
The duo – who were household names in the 90s and 00s – presented the Hitlist UK together and travelled around the USA for show Roadtripping.
She said: “Cat Deeley and I, who are still really good mates, we started MTV at the same time and we’d spent so much time just hanging out and going out.
“We came up with the idea [while] watching Thelma and Louise one night with a bottle of wine going, ‘Wouldn’t it be great to do a show like this?’
“We were really good mates, and we are really good mates still. And it was like, ‘Oh, Cat and Edith are in a lesbian relationship’.”
Edith revealed that pictures of the bar leaving the trendy Met Bar in each other’s arms when drunk sparked the talk of a relationship between them.
She continued: “Photographs of us kind of holding each other up, coming out of the Met bar or whatever was because we were p****d it wasn’t because we were like, licking each other’s faces off!
“We are in love, but as friends kind of thing, It’s so bizarre.”
Edith married Editors frontman, Tom Smith, in 2013, with Cat tying the knot with best friend Patrick Kielty in 2012.
Earlier this month, Cat announced the pair’s new podcast Friends Will Be Friends.
She wrote: “The secret’s out… We’ve got a brand new @bbcradio2 podcast @edibow!!
“Each week we’ll be chatting to a celebrity and their best mate to find out the stories behind their friendship.
“I’m so excited for you to hear it: listen now on @bbcsounds! Tomorrow we’ll be on the breakfast show with @zoetheball.”
Edith also shared the news posting: “FINALLY we can talk about it. @catdeeley and I have only gone and got ourselves a new show… @bbcradio2 @bbcsounds #friendswillbefriends… Can’t wait for you to hear it.”
An official statement from the pair read: “We are so excited about our new project, Friends Will Be Friends.
“It’s something we came up with that allows us to celebrate our own friendship while exploring the beautiful and unique relationships a friendship can be to us all. Ours has survived time, distance and working together for 20 years. Long may it continue.”
