ITV has recently undergone a major format change in their evening schedule but Emmerdale fans are not impressed.
The ITV evening news which was originally a half an hour programme that started at 6.30pm now runs for an additional 30 minutes, pushing Emmerdale into a new start time of 7:30pm.
The new alteration also has a major effect on Coronation Street which is now pushed back from its original start time during the weekdays too.
But due to the fact that EastEnders also kicked off at 7.30pm on Monday night, fans were left angered with having to make the choice between the two popular soaps.
Taking to Twitter viewersonline shared their annoyance regarding the new adjustment.
One fan expressed: “Dear @emmerdale just to let you know gonna watch @bbceastenders now. Things are happening there, while you’re dragging on with that pantomime Meena serial killer bull twaddle #emmerdale #EastEnders. Furthermore, why did @ITV change the schedules?!”
Another penned: “Not happy with the change in time schedules…”
A third wrote: “@ITV presumably the intention with the new time for #emmerdale was to combine that with lowest viewing figures because continuing with that ridiculous #meena story means I, like many others, for that reason – am out!”
While a fourth added: “Why would you put #Emmerdale and #EastEnders on at the same time.. actually pi**ed me off! Now got to spend more time catching up on one!”
In January, ITV announced that they will introduce a schedule revamp by covering an hour-long news programme presented by Mary Nightingale.
Discussing the new change, ITV’s Director of News and Current Affairs, Michael Jermey explained: “The expansion of the network evening news programme and the investment in new roles is an enormous vote of confidence in ITV News’ journalism, which has continued to deliver strong exclusives and insightful reporting year after year, with 2022 so far being no exception.
“ITV’s news on television and digital platforms informs millions of people every day.
“It sits alongside strong current affairs output such as the Tonight programme, Peston, The Martin Lewis Money Show and the Bafta and Emmy award-winning Exposure strand.”
