Emmerdale Rhona star says she wants Harry Potter icon to play Marlon Dingle's mum

Emmerdale Rhona star Zoe Henry has revealed the Harry Potter icon and TV legend that she would love to see play Marlon Dingle’s mum in the soap.

Despite Marlon Dingle appearing on screen for more than two decades, viewers have never met his mum.

However, following the arrival of Doctor Who star Louise Jameson earlier this year as Rhona’s mum Mary, the stars have now revealed that they would love to see Marlon’s mum make an appearance in Emmerdale.

Speaking to Daily Star and other press, Zoe also revealed the TV legend that she would love to see join the soap as Marlon’s mum, saying: “The person I really like the idea of is Frances De La Tour.”

Frances De La Tour is the star of TV series including Rising Damp and Vicious, and also played the Beauxbaton Academy headmistress in Harry Potter and The Goblet Of Fire, with Zoe saying “she’d be perfect” for the role of Marlon’s mum in Emmerdale.

Fans will remember Marlon’s dad Albert Dingle, played by Bobby Knutt on the soap between 1995 and 1998, but Marlon actor Mark Charnock has always hoped that one day the character’s mum will make an appearance.

He said: “Years ago I was hoping… we’ve never really met Marlon’s mum.

“She’s talked about in the sense that I once said, ‘I swear on our mother’s grave’, but we don’t really know about his mum.

“We know who his dad was – Albert Dingle played by Bobby – so I think it would be really funny to bring in Marlon’s mum.”

Speaking about the moment that Rhona’s mum was brought into the soap unexpectedly, Zoe added: “I did always wonder if they’d bring any family in and they have done with Mary, and I think she’s an amazing addition. That’s nice.”

So could an appearance from Marlon’s mum be on the cards in the future? The cast do not know, but have said that anything can be in store for their characters.

“Everything is surprise. All the stories are a surprise,” said Mark.
