Fastest Finger First viewers blast ‘desperate’ ITV spin-off show amid debut episode

Viewers are blasting ITV’s latest new quiz show Fastest Finger First as “desperate” as the show debuts its first episode this Bank Holiday Monday.

The trivia show sees contestants play the first round of classic gameshow Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, with the chance to win a guaranteed place in the main show.

But as fans tuned in to watch the launch episode, many couldn’t help but criticise the format as players “compete on one game show to win a place on another.”

“Are ITV now so desperate for quiz show ideas that they have to expand a ten second part of *another* quiz show into a full hour. Just as well they don’t own the rights to any of the rounds on #HouseOfGames… FastestFingerFirst,” said one viewer.

A second added: “#fastestfingerfirst The only thing you win is a chance to be on another game show? Then might I suggest a gameshow where, if you win, you get a chance to jump the list for a long-awaited NHS medical procedure?”

A third added: “A quiz show to win a place on a quiz show #FastestFingerFirst.”

Another even offered a different idea for a spin-off saying: “They should do a spin off of #TippingPoint with the contestant [not clever enough] to make it on to the main show, now THAT would be good TV #fastestfingerfirst.”

Host Anita Rani recently revealed she hasn’t yet turned to Who Wants To A Millionaire? host Jeremy Clarkson for advice.

Confident in her own abilities, the 44-year-old Countryfile star told The Daily Star exclusively: “I haven’t caught up with him, but I like his farming show.”

It comes as Anita calls on TV bosses to give more women jobs presenting quiz shows after University Challenge hired Amol Rajan last week to replace Jeremy Paxman.

A sexism row erupted after it was reported Paxman’s understudies Emma Barnett, 37, and Samira Ahmed, 54, were promised auditions which failed to materialise.

She says: “These opportunities don’t come around very often. I’ve wanted to do a quiz for ages.

“Something as iconic as Millionaire, the same brand, deciding to do an offshoot is a dream come true.

“And how many women present quiz shows? I don’t know why it’s taken so long.

But straight-talking former Strictly semi-finalist Anita has no plans to go down the cheesy catchphrase route.

She adds: “I was like, ‘I’ve got a quiz show, what am I going to do – wink?’ The wink is gone.”
