Four in critical condition after thousands 'storm singer Asake's gig at O2 venue'

Eight people were taken to hospital and four remain in critical condition following chaos at O2 Academy in London.

Police cancelled Nigerian singer Asake’s concert at the O2 Academy in Brixton on Thursday (December 15) as hundreds of revellers reportedly tried to force their way into the venue.

An announcement was made on stage at the venue and was met with uproar after cops shut down the concert.

Speaking to the fans, a venue announcement said: “The reason we have to stop the show is because they have breached the doors. You’ve got 3,000 people that have broken the doors outside and because of security the police have asked us to close the show.”

As fans loudly booed, the message continued: “This is nothing to do with us,” before adding: “This is basically – listen to what I am saying…”

The booing drowned out the messaging, causing another to add: “Listen, for your own safety, for your own safety, listen, please. For your own safety, please, please, please. There are people who’ve breached the door.

“They have broken in and security are trying to help with it.”

In another clip, hundreds of people are seen packed like sardines in an alleyway adjacent to the venue.

Videos have been circulating online of the incident

Another shocking video shows a woman arguing with an officer at the top of a concrete set of stairs at the front of the venue, before the policeman throws her down them.

One user on Twitter wrote: “Asake’s show got cancelled. Organisers trying to protect ravers or they have no respect for them?”

It came hours after Asake posted on his Instagram story that the event was sold out.
