GMB fans thank ITV bosses as Richard Madeley replaced by Martin Lewis in show shake-up

Good Morning Britain star Richard Madeley was replaced by Martin Lewis during the latest edition of the ITV breakfast show.

The 65-year-old presenter usually hosts on Monday morning alongside Susanna Reid.

However, Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis was sat in Richard’s seat when viewers tuned in.

Richard has been hosting the programme from Monday to Wednesday since before Christmas.

Susanna logged into Twitter on Sunday evening to inform her fans about her co-host shake-up.

She wrote to her followers: “Tomorrow, I am very pleased to say that @MartinSLewis will be hosting @GMB with me.”

The news was well received by GMB fans, with some rushing to their keyboards to share their excitement.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “”Good to have Martin back. We need his wise words particularly to find a peaceful way out of the terrible predicament the world is in.”

Another gushed: “Excellent..don’t really mind who’s on with Susanna, they all bring something different but Martin’s going to be great re cost of living crisis that’s scaring so many at the moment. They’ll deal with sensitive issues well. Alarm will be set.”

While a third person wrote: “Thank you GMB! Great start to the week.”

Martin is used to fronting Good Morning Britain, having stepped in after Piers Morgan left in March 2021.

Alastair Campbell, Ed Balls, Adil Ray, and Rob Rinder have also assisted Susanna following his departure.

Piers, 56, quit the popular morning programme last year after he stormed off set following a row with weatherman Alex Beresford.

After walking out on the show, Piers revealed he turned down 20 jobs before signing a deal with The Sun, adding how he was “coming home”.

Richard managed to rub up some GMB viewers the wrong way last week.

He was interviewing former television journalist Olena Gne at the time, who is currently sheltering in a basement in Kyiv with her three children, when viewers took issue with his comments.

Speaking about an explosion that occurred at an apartment block close to where Olena is located, Richard said: “We know that two innocent people were killed, at least three injured. Those figures may go up as reports come in.”

Viewers were quick to brand Richard’s comments “insensitive” with some taking to Twitter to complain.

One person wrote: “Why would Richard Madeley feel the need to mention that two people have been killed in an explosion close to the apartment where they’re interviewing a mother and her children in a basement. Producers, please have a word, incredibly insensitive.”

A second viewer added: “Awful. Tells the whole family in front of the children that a mother and child have just died in an apartment near them… Next sentence: what are you doing to reassure the children?!”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am
