GMB slammed over 'cancelled' John Barrowman interview with host Richard Madeley

Good Morning Britain has been slammed by viewers after hosting an interview with John Barrowman.

On Tuesday (February 22), the TV star was welcomed onto the show by Richard Madeley who talked to him about his new ventures.

However, the programme was met with a barrage of criticism afterwards due to the prior allegations of John exposing himself on the sets of BBC’s Doctor Who and Torchwood – which he has admitted to but branded “tomfoolery”.

During the chat, the actor said cancel culture is similar to hyenas “trying to strip meat to the bone” after host Richard questioned him about his allegations.

However, viewers weren’t impressed with the former Dancing On Ice star being interviewed on the show with them wanting him to be “cancelled” for his on-set behaviour.

Richard didn’t shy away from the elephant in the room and dived straight in with a harsher line of questioning than usual with the former DOI panellist.

He began: “A lot of people in this country would have assumed your career was over. When all the reports came out of this party trick you used to do, which is basically exposing yourself to colleagues which you thought was very funny at the time, and all this came out – and it would seem to many of us that that kind of sunk your career.

“And yet, here we are talking about brand new projects. How did you turn it around?”

John replied: “I don’t think it’s me that has turned it around. The public understand that it was tomfoolery, that it was a joke and silliness and wasn’t sexual harassment.

“And you say it was my party trick, but everybody who was there on set and part of the fun, all enjoyed and laughed about the silliness that went on…”

GMB viewers stormed to Twitter after the interview was aired to share their frustrations about John’s segment.

One viewer wrote: “John Barrowman on GMB today stating that it wasn’t indecent exposure/sexual harassment when he showed off his penis to work colleagues. It was ‘tomfoolery’ because everyone laughed along. Language doesn’t change the offence.”

Viewers thought the hosts were to easy on him

A second added: “John Barrowman excusing exposing himself and rubbing his penis on fellow cast members as ‘tomfoolery’, an act that would get you put in prison anywhere but the BBC Studios and Hollywood. As usual GMB didn’t put it up on Twitter as they knew there would be a backlash!!”

While a third joked: “Richard Madeley starting a GMB interview with on-set flasher John Barrowman with the immortal lines ‘right let’s address the elephant in the room’. Seriously has he got it out again?”

And a fourth typed: “Why is John Barrowman still being soft served in these interviews? It’s annoying how people pick and choose who to be outraged at.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV
