GMB's Dr Hilary issues on air health update as he returns to ITV after Christmas

TV medic Dr Hilary Jones has revealed that he tested positive for Covid over Christmas – and he ‘thanked the lord’ that he got his booster jab.

The 68-year-old doctor is a TV medical expert and healthcare professional on ITV’s daytime shows such as Good Morning Britain and Lorraine.

Appearing on Tuesday’s Lorraine (January 4), Dr Hilary Jones opened up about catching Covid over Christmas – and he said he was glad that he’d received the booster jab as it made it feel like ‘a bad cold’.

Speaking on her show, Lorraine asked him: “You had it yourself?”

“I did, yes, over Christmas,” said Dr Hilary, adding: “I tested positive so I think a lot of people are going to get this variant.”

Lorraine agreed: “Yes, we are. You said that to me. Remember when I called you?

“Because Rosie had it, and Rosie’s boyfriend James as well. So it came very close to us. You know, we still had a decent Christmas, it was fine, we made Christmas Day another day.”

“Sure, sure,” said Dr Hilary.

He added: “And I thank the lord I had three jabs!”

“Indeed,” said Lorraine.

Dr Hilary said: “Because, you know, it certainly mitigated serious infection. To me, it was like a bad cold.”

The NHS Providers Chief Executive said the reduction of Covid isolation to 5 days in UK is ‘unlikely’ during his interview via video link on GMB earlier today.

Dr Hilary recently said that losing weight is “not just about vanity” as he stressed the importance of tackling obesity during the pandemic.

He told the PA news agency: “It’s what we call the indirect harms of the pandemic.

“So people have sort of locked themselves in in their four walls at home, they’re eating for comfort, they’re eating because they’re bored, they’re taking less physical activity… yes, it has been an indirect harm, and now we need to reverse that.

“It’s never too late to reverse those things.”

“So, we’ve had the longest night… the darkest hours, now the days are getting longer, and every day we have opportunity to take a bit of exercise, whatever it is, to think about what we eat, about the portion sizes that we’re consuming and what we’re eating, and we need to reverse the indirect harms caused by the pandemic, for sure, but there’s no reason we can’t do that.”
