GMB's Martin Lewis issues apology as he 'breaks rules' following tense interview

Martin Lewis issued an apology to Good Morning Britain viewers following a tense interview with Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Sajid Javid.

Martin, 49, and his co-host Susanna Reid welcomed the politician onto the ITV breakfast show on Monday morning.

Following a chat about the increase of the cost of living prices and how it may effect members of the public who rely on oxygen, Martin asked Mr Javid for some help.

The Money Saving Expert asked if Mr Javid could “forgive him for taking off his presenters hat” as he wondered if the politician could try his best to help out people who rely on electric equipment for their health and may no longer be able to afford it.

After asking Mr Javid for a favour “as a campaigner and not a presenter”, Martin apologised as he wasn’t sure if he “broke broadcasting rules”.

Susanna, 51, quickly told her co-star that he’s “forgiven” and that he’s “allowed to have an opinion”.

Martin replied: “It was a campaigning call. I just hope I didn’t break some broadcasting regulations by doing that and stepping the line but I did think it was important.”

Martin replaced Richard Madeley on the latest edition of GMB.

Richard has been hosting the programme from Monday to Wednesday since before Christmas.

However, Susanna logged into Twitter on Sunday evening to inform her fans about her co-host shake-up.

She wrote to her followers: “Tomorrow, I am very pleased to say that @MartinSLewis will be hosting @GMB with me.”

The news was well received by GMB fans, with some rushing to their keyboards to share their excitement.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “”Good to have Martin back. We need his wise words particularly to find a peaceful way out of the terrible predicament the world is in.”

Another gushed: “Excellent..don’t really mind who’s on with Susanna, they all bring something different but Martin’s going to be great re cost of living crisis that’s scaring so many at the moment. They’ll deal with sensitive issues well. Alarm will be set.”

While a third person wrote: “Thank you GMB! Great start to the week.”

Martin is used to fronting Good Morning Britain, having stepped in after Piers Morgan left in March 2021.
