She said: “There was one particular moment when we needed her. It was the beginning of the lockdown. Everybody was thrown by something none of us had experienced. Nothing as significant since wartime.

“She did the speech that we all needed to watch and she and she reflected the words of Dame Vera Lynn that we would be together again. So many people felt isolated and alone – and The Queen was there.”

The presenter went on to brand Her Majesty as “the golden thread that linked the country to the second world,” adding that the Queen’s words helped boost morale during one of the darkest times in the UK.

Hours before the news broke of the Queen’s passing, Susanna took to Instagram and penned an emotional tribute saying how she wished the Queen could be here forever.

The ITV star shared two beautiful snaps of Her Majesty smiling as she wore her iconic pearl necklaces.

Susanna wrote: “No one more likely to be so loved, admired and respected than Her Majesty The Queen and although she cannot be immortal, I think we have always hoped she might be.”

Fans of the GMB star flooded to the comments to pen thoughtful messages of their own.

One fan wrote: “Very true [heart emoji] cannot imagine the monarchy without our Queen,” while another said: “Think we all agree on that sentiment, the greatest woman of our time.”
