Grammy Awards 2022 officially postponed for second year after COVID fears

The Grammy Awards 2022 have been postponed due to Covid fears as the Omicron variant continues to spread.

The A-list awards is in its 64th year and plans to put health and safety as a priority before celebrations.

In a joint statement released from the Recording Academy and CBS, it says: “After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy® and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards® Show.

“The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority.

It continued: “Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31 simply contains too many risks.

“We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night® on a future date, which will be announced soon.”

After also initially being rescheduled, the annual Grammy Awards in 2021 was conducted in socially distanced style with a mask-wearing star-studded crowd.

The top names in the music industry slipped into their finest clothes as they strutted their stuff on the red carpet before heading to the awards room.

The event was broadcast live across the US, however, several accolades were announced at the Grammy’s Premiere Ceremony, prior to the big show.

The pre-show was hosted by singer Jhené Aiko who stunned on the night.

Last year, Beyoncé created history as she became the most awarded female recording artist of all time, taking home an extra four awards – bringing her total Grammy collection to a staggering 28.

The Single Ladies singer took home Best Music Video for Brown Skin Girl – Beyoncé, Blue Ivy & WizKid and Best Rap Performance for Savage – Megan Thee Stallion featuring Beyoncé.

She also won Best Rap Song for the same track, her iconic collab with Megan Thee Stallion and Best R&B Performance for Black Parade.
