Harry Potter's Emma Watson praised as she 'makes witch dig' at JK Rowling at BAFTAs

Emma Watson has been praised by fans after she appeared to make a dig at Harry Potter author JK Rowling while presenting a BAFTA on Sunday night (March 13).

The writer has been very vocal about her views on women’s rights, and whether or not they include the rights of trans women, with her regularly excluding trans women from the conversation.

But Emma, who played Hermione Granger in the wizarding franchise, seemed to take aim at JK as she took to the stage to present the award for Outstanding British Film.

Rebel Wilson, who was hosting the event, introduced Emma by saying: “Here to present the next award is Emma Watson. She calls herself a feminist, but we all know she’s a witch.”

And Emma, who has previously spoken out in support of trans women following JK’s tweets, said: “I’m here for all of the witches, by the way.”

Viewers at home noticed the stress Emma placed upon “all”, and took it to mean she was once again showing her support for the transgender community.

One person tweeted: “Emma Watson throwing some classy shade there – ‘I just wanna say I’m here for all the witches.'”

Another said: “Emma Watson’s ‘I’m here for *all* of the witches, by the way’ was a giant dig at JK and I love her for it.”

A third wrote: “Emma Watson saying she’s here for ‘all the witches’.”

While someone else added: “I love that Emma Watson is here for all the witches.”

And a fifth said: “Emma Watson opening with ‘I’m here for all the witches…’ She’s here for trans rights #TransWomenAreWomen.”

Recently, JK has been slammed for “speaking for the gay community”, after she shared a tweet in which she suggested that gay people agree with her views.

She wrote: “Innumerable gay people have been in touch with me to say exactly this. Like women, they – especially lesbians – are under attack for not wishing to be redefined and for refusing to use ideological language they find offensive.”

Since, the gay community came out in full force and “#JKDoesntSpeakForMe” trended in the UK on Twitter.
