Hollyoaks Verity death confirmed in sick Bobby twist leaving actress 'genuinely sad'

Hollyoaks favourite Eva O’Hara has opened up about her character Verity Hutchinson’s shock death.

The village lawyer was brutally attacked by child killer Bobby Costello (Jayden Fox) during Tuesday’s first-look episode on E4.

She was whacked over the head with a book at first and later woke up underneath a bookshelf.

Verity tried calling out for someone’s attention but nobody could hear her desperate cries for help.

She managed to find the strength and stumbled into the village but later collapsed in her heartbroken brother Tony Hutchinson’s (Nick Pickard) arms.

In the ambulance, Eric Foster (Angus Castle-Doughty) vowed to be a “better brother” but unfortunately viewers learned that Verity suffered a cardiac arrest and died.

Opening up about her dramatic exit, Eva said: “We made this decision to try and keep it a secret.

“Often you kind of know if someone’s leaving beforehand but it was like ‘let’s get that shock factor for when Verity leaves’.

“The scenes were emotionally tough and her final few hours are quite lonely. It really was genuinely sad.”

She continued: “I wanted something meaty and emotional if Verity was to leave.

“It was quite a while ago I sort of let on that I might be leaving so production could really have a think about a justified ending or a death, which is think is important for the storyline.”

Eva, who joined the show as Verity in 2020, let slip that she’s taken some memorabilia from set to remember her time working on the Channel 4 soap.

She joked: “I’ve nicked things for years and I’ve got a shrine.

“One thing I really want to get my hands on is the angel on top of the Christmas tree at the Dog. She’s painted with ginger hair so it looks a little bit like Verity so maybe I’ll ask someone to nick it for me.”

In upcoming scenes, Maxine Minniver (Nikki Sandwerson) finds a concerning voicemail from Verity, which was recorded before just her attack, telling her that she’s found out something about Eric.

Maxine later plays the voicemail in front of all the Hutchinson family at the pub.

Will Eric get the blame for his sister’s murder or will Bobby get caught?

Actress Eva went on share that she wants Bobby to be punished for killing Verity.

She said: “Discovering Bobby is her killer was really quite something. I couldn’t believe it.

“I want him to be caught out. It’s so heartless and there’s no connection there so I do hope that there’s some justice for Verity.”

Speaking about her future away from Holyoaks, Eva teased: “I’ve got a few projects lined up and it’s kind of exciting.

“I’m of kind of stretching my muscles really outside the gorgeous character of Verity, which is strange because you get so connected and grounded in the character you’re playing.

“It’s a really different period but an exciting one.”

Hollyoaks airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 6.30pm followed by first-look episodes on E4 at 7pm
