Inside Corrie star Georgia May Foote's life – children's TV show role to famous fiancé

Coronation Street viewers witnessed the return of Linda Hancock in recent scenes.

The ex-wife of Owen Armstrong and absent mother of Izzy and Katy Armstrong made her comeback last week to visit her grandson Joseph Brown.

When Chesney Brown admitted to her how tough life has been for him recently, Linda agreed to stay and support him.

Viewers were left devastated after they discovered that Katy, mother to Chesney’s son Joseph, had been killed in a car crash off screen in 2017.

The character was played by actress Georgia May Foote from 2010 until 2015.

Since leaving the ITV soap, Georgia has led an interesting life – including a stint on Strictly Come Dancing and becoming engaged to her famous boyfriend.

Long before Georgia played Katy Armstrong in Coronation Street, the actress was already a huge star following her regular role in an iconic children’s TV programme.

From 2005-2008, she starred as Alison Simmons in the BBC series Grange Hill.

She also appeared as Charley Witham in Life On Mars and had a rival soap role for one episode of Emmerdale in 2010, playing Bryony Gregson.

Fans may not know that Georgia also had a forgotten soap role in Coronation Street too, playing Jess Burrows for one episode in 2010, before going on to land her regular role as Katy Armstrong.

During this time she was also voted Sexiest Female twice in a row at the British Soap Awards.

However, Georgia decided to leave Coronation Street in 2015, saying in a statement: “Thankyou for all your lovely messages regarding me leaving Coronation Street! Obviously it will be a very emotional time for me!

Since then, the actress has had huge on-screen success with leading roles such as Holly in comedy series Trollied and Falista in TV series The Outpost between 2020-2021.

However, Gemma sadly did not return to Coronation Street, with the character being killed off screen in a car crash in 2017.

Strictly Come Dancing stint

One of Georgia’s first roles after leaving Coronation Street was her jaw-dropping appearance on Strictly Come Dancing in 2015.

Ahead of her appearance, Georgia told BBC: “I think I’ll get competitive, but only in a good way. I like to keep going until I get things right.”

She certainly did get things right, as the talented star danced her way to the final with professional partner Giovanni Pernice.

However after performing sensational rumba, Charleston and show-dance routines, she sadly lost out on the glitterball trophy to The Wanted star Jay McGuinness.

Away from the limelight, Georgia was delighted to announce that she had become engaged to her boyfriend Kris Evans.

Georgia’s husband to be is also a famous star too, having previously been one part of boyband The Mend.

The Mend reached the final of Britain’s Got Talent 2011, and went on to support Little Mix on their 2013 DNA Tour.

However, the group have since split and Kris Evans now works as a music producer.
