Football career
Michael Owen had quite the career in football, with the star kicking off his stint in Liverpool in his youth – starting off younger than most of the players at just 16-years-old.
He played for Liverpool from 1991 to 1996 before joining the adults team until 2004.
From then the star hopped around to Real Madrid, Newcastle United, Manchester United and Stoke City.
Owen also played for England and scored 40 goals for the national team during his games ranging from 1998 to 2008.
He’s since done TV work elsewhere, but remains most famed for his football career.
Masked Singer
Michael Owen left fans absolutely gobsmacked when it was revealed that he was behind the mask of Doughnuts – but some fans had predicted it already.
He managed to get quite far in the competition due to his fun personality on air, but it kept fans scratching their heads for quite a long time.
Many hints were dropped including a hint to “stoking up a fire” which the judges connected to Stoke FC, which he played for between 2012-2013.
He also dropped hints about coaching and reinvesting in the youth – and by the time the final came around most of the judges had at least one guess that it was Michael.
Ultimately he was unmasked and apologised to his fans for his singing on the show.
WAG
The footballer’s wife Louise Bonsall grew to fame as she wed Michael Owen.
They met in primary school in 1984 and have been together ever since and then ultimately became engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2004 in an intimate at-home proposal.
They were due to marry at their home but ultimately decided against it and later had a small private ceremony before having a blessing at their home.
Louise started riding horses and rescues them, with the Owen family keeping horses at their home.
However, Louise suffered an accident in 2004 and after the incident she changed her focus and left training dressage horses for caring for rehabilitation horses and became a patron of the Thoroughbread Rehabilitation Centre.
Luckily her daughter Gemma has followed in her footsteps and has been doing dressage as part of her career.
Love Island
Gemma Owen signed up to Love Island in 2022 – and she’s very quickly become the fan-favourite.
When she started off on the series fans were on edge and unsure about their thoughts towards her, but it seems many viewers have had a quick turnaround.
Despite being the youngest in the villa, Gemma has been praised for her maturity and tact in handling all kinds of situations while also showing support towards her friends.
Her dad has rarely commented on the show, bar a brief covered eye emoji when she took part in the heart rate challenge.
Gemma is currently going strong on the series, and even host Laura Whitmore has predicted she’ll land a spot in the final.
Michael and Louise have three other children, though they’re all younger than Gemma with James, 16, Emily, 14, and Jess, 12.
