ITV slammed for showing Christmas film The Holiday more than 50 times since 2010

ITV has been slammed for showing Christmas film The Holiday more than 50 times since 2010.

The 2006 flick, starring Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Jack Black, has become a festive favourite.

The movie was on again this year, with ITV showing it on December 23 and ITV2 on Christmas Eve, making a total of four times in 2021.

It was shown three times in 2020 and eight in 2012.

It has also emerged that ITV showed more than 90 hours of Harry Potter films across its channels in the past year – screening the eight movies a total of 41 times between them.

One viewer said: “Nobody is forced to watch it. It has been shown 50 times and I haven’t watched it 50 times.”

This comes as viewers of rival channel BBC One claimed that 2022 has already been ‘ruined’ by the airing of yet another Mrs Brown’s Boys special on New Year’s Day on Saturday (January 1).

Unhappy viewers of the popular BBC comedy show saw Mammy, as she’s fondly known, recovering from her New Year’s Eve hangover joined by the usual cast of regulars at her home.

And among the ‘hilarious’ one-liners included in the programme was Grandad’s joke about a ‘murder’ taking place nearby, as he piped up from his armchair: “There was a murder in the flats last night. A man was beaten to death with a fish.”

After a beat, he added: “They think it was Jack the Kipper!” – prompting the live audience to collapse into hoots of laughter.

Fuming fans took to social media within minutes of the episode starting, with some claiming that the show is a bad omen for the rest of 2022.

One viewer wrote: “2022 was going so well but Mrs Brown’s Boys has just come on!”

Another agreed: “@BBCOne kicking off their drama for 2022 with the thrilling The Tourist… shame they then put Mrs Brown’s Boys on!”

“Sooner catch Happy New Year’s Omicron than watch Mrs Brown’s Boys!” another posted.
