Jack Whitehall and his family were approached to do a “Kardashians-type” reality show for the BBC.
The comic’s dad Michael, 82, said: “It would have involved all of us – [wife] Hilary, me, Jack and our other children, Molly and Barney.”
Nothing came of it despite a BBC exec saying it would be “brilliant”.
Showbiz agent Michael, who starred in Travels With My Father with Jack, 34, also turned down Strictly after realising what a big commitment it would be.

“I didn’t want to travel all the way to Elstree all the time. I said, ‘There’s a pub here near where we live, couldn’t I rehearse there?’
“They said, ‘Oh no, we don’t think that would be possible.’ Shows how much I know about Strictly.”
“I did speak to John Sergeant about it and he said that he had the most wonderful time.”
He added: “But the more he talked about it and what it involved, I thought, ‘This isn’t for me.’ Hilary could definitely do it.”
Meanwhile, Jack’s mum Hilary, 60, told Heat magazine how she was “desperate” to make an appearance as a contestant on Celebrity MasterChef this year.
She said: “There was talk that I could do it this year, but I wasn’t available for all the filming dates.
“I’m gutted that I couldn’t do it this year, because it turned out I would have been on the show with Paul Chuckle, who I love.”
Meanwhile, Jack has found success in Hollywood after appearing in a number of different films, including US films Jungle Cruise and Clifford the Big Red Dog.
He is also set to star in Robots, a romantic science fiction film which also stars Shailene Woodley, who replaced original star Emma Roberts but a release date is yet to be confirmed.
