James Martin apologises to fans after breaking down in tears on ITV's Saturday Morning

James Martin has apologised to fans after crying during a touching moment of ITV show Saturday Morning – however they have hit back and made it clear he has nothing to be sorry about.

The celebrity chef could be seen wiping tears away from his face on Saturday Morning (May 28) during a segment celebrating the 200th episode of the ITV series.

A range of famous faces appeared on the montage, but one clip showing James with the late Michael Roux Snr was too much for him to take.

Michael, who was also a chef and James’s mentor, sadly died in March 2020.

James described him as a “father figure” and said that he had been a very special person in his life.

But after the emotional episode, James took to Twitter to actually apologise for the moment.

Writing to his 718,000 followers, the 49-year-old said: “Sorry I got a bit emotional on the show. Michael Roux Snr was like a father figure to me and that day in France was one of the greatest in my life.”

His fans were quick to reassure him that there was nothing to apologise for, though.

One said: “Please don’t be sorry, we loved today’s very special episode. I thought it was really touching to see how emotional you were. Shows what a lovely person you are and an amazing chef.”

Another told him: “No need to, it shows everyone what it means to truly respect and love someone you worked with and what it means to be friends. Great show, inter play of the guests and chefs was brilliant.”

A third replied: “Aww James I so felt for you as I watched the clip and the love you guys had for each other in a paternal sense. I thought it was so precious.”

And someone else added: “You’ve got nothing to apologise for James, nothing wrong with a man showing some emotion. And he was a lovely, lovely man, wish he was still with us, so much fun with you and on Saturday Morning Kitchen, explaining everything. One of the best, wish I could have met him.”
