James Martin turned bright red after TV chef Paul Rankin pointed out their wardrobe blunder as they presented Saturday Morning this weekend.
The professional chef welcomed a variety of guests onto the ITV show and even allowed Paul to take over his kitchen as he cooked up a storm and served an artichoke dish for the crew.
But the cooking segment soon got side-tracked when the pair noticed they had arrived to set in the same outfit.
The dynamic duo rocked a matching navy-blue shirt which featured white buttons down the centre which they paired with a white tee-shirt underneath.
To complete the look they added a pair of black jeans and black leather shoes for the dressed down TV special.
While Paul was in the middle of whipping up his vegetable dish, he highlighted the wardrobe error to viewers at home.
He asked: “I wonder, has anyone at home noticed that James has again copied the way I’m dressed?”
Taken aback by his remark, James replied: “Is that right?” as he modelled the stylish ensemble.
Paul explained: “Look, we’re both in navy shirts with white buttons and a white tee-shirt.”
It was at this point that the former Strictly Come Dancing contestant cut off his colleague as he noticed the size difference between the pair, and couldn’t help making a cheeky quip.
He laughed: “Paul, I would love to wear a shirt like that, but I was probably 12 when I used to be able to get in a shirt like that.”
The star immediately corrected his statement as the entire crew burst into laughter on set.
He added: “12 months I mean, not 12. I couldn’t possibly get in a shirt like that.”
But Paul refused to listen to his self-deprecating comments as he reassured him: “No! It’s the same [shirt].”
Ever the comic, James quickly argued: “You’ve got half the material in your shirt than I have!”
“Well, let’s swap and see,” Paul suggested as a worried-looking James shifted in his seat, saying: “No, I am definitely not swapping.”
It comes as James explained the secret behind his incredible five stone weight loss, telling The Herald of dieting: “It’s not the butter consumption.
“It’s the ready-made food, it’s the packet food, the hidden salt, hidden fat – that’s the problem in this country.”
