Jason Manford got emotional about his daughters after a group of fans performed an Ariana Grande song on ITV’s Starstruck.
The dad-of-six was reminded of the time he grew tearful with his four girls as they watched Ariana perform at the One Love concert in June 2017 – following the tragic Manchester Arena Attack.
The comedian is a judge on the new ITV talent show, which sees super-fans take to the stage and emulate their biggest musical idols.
Saturday night’s (February 12) show, hosted by singer Olly Murs, saw trios take to the stage to cover hits from Lady Gaga, Queen, Marvin Gaye and Ariana Grande.
However, when Team Ariana, made up of Connie, Ellis, and Abi, sung the US pop star’s hit song One Last Time, Jason was visibly moved by the rendition.
After they performed it, Jason opened up about what the song meant to him and his family.
It was phenomenal. Absolutely brilliant. I’ve got four daughters, and let me tell you, she’s played in our house all the time. There’s posters everywhere.”
He went on to explain why the song means so much to him.
Jason said: “The song itself actually means a lot to us. She sang that song at the closing of the One Love concert in Manchester, and I remember being there with my daughters, you know?
“And there were moments there watching you that I felt like I was back there with tearsin our eyes watching Ariana finish this wonderful concert, so well done. It was a real honour to watch you.”
It was Team Freddie – Joe, Rob and Michael – who topped the bill, and stay-at-home dad Rob was voted through to the final.
The star-studded panel includes Jason as well as Benidorm actress Sheridan Smith, Queen singer Adam Lambert, soul queen Beverley Knight.
Speaking about the new series, Adam Lambert said: “I think that everybody that watches Starstruck is going to have a great time.
“There’s something for everybody, there’s something for all music tastes and all ages which is really exciting and I think that it’s really easy to see yourself in the show.
“I mean these are regular people that work regular day jobs that are getting to live out their fantasy which is really exciting.”
