Jazz star and Roberta Flack's son Bernard Wright tragically dies aged just 58

Jazz star Bernard Wright has died aged 58.

The spiritual son of legendary singer Roberta Flack, Bernard’s death was confirmed by his family in a heartbreaking social media post on Friday (May 20).

The statement reads: “On behalf of the family of Bernard Wright (Nard), We are saddened to announce that yesterday Bernard has been called home to the Most High.

“Many thanks for everyone’s support, encouragement, and prayers for Nard throughout the years. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.

“Our hearts are heavy and our faith is strong. To be absent from the body is to be present with The Lord! LOVE! Rest In Power, Nard.”

Bernard’s cause of death has yet to be disclosed.

The talented musician famously toured with Jazz legend Lenny White when he was just 13 years old.

Following in his spiritual mother’s famous footsteps, Bernard went on to play with Tom Browne and in 1981, released his debut album ‘Nard at the age of 18.

The record memorably reached number seven on the jazz albums chart in the US.

The musician is perhaps best known for his hit single Who Do You Love.

Released in 1985, the record was the first single issued from Bernard’s third studio album.

Co-written by Bernard himself, it became a massive hit.

Bernard is mourned by his spiritual mother and music legend, Roberta Flack.

The 85-year-old singer is famous for her hit singles including The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face and Killing Me Softly With His Song.

Following the sad news of Bernard’s passing, fans have paid tribute to the late singer online.

One mourner wrote: “RIP Bernard Wright. Thinking of his mum Roberta Flack and the rest of his family at this immensely difficult time.”

Another shared: “Rest In Eternal Heaven, Bernard Wright. I’ll never be able to say THANK YOU enough.”

A third added: “I’m broken-hearted to hear that Bernard Wright has passed away.

“I loved loved loved that ‘Nard album SO hard. His music was a huge influence on me. R.I.P. to this king.”
