TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson has hinted that The Grand Tour could undergo some big changes as their special episodes can take up to six months to plan.
Before the release of their latest special, Carnage A Trois, Clarkson said: “We’ll see how this series is received but there are plans to do something similar again. For now, we can’t wait to get back to doing more big foreign travel.
“It’s tricky because everything’s so fluid at the moment. It takes six months to plan a foreign trip for us, and who’s to know what’s going to happen in six months’ time?”
Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond shot to fame when they began presenting the topical motor show Top Gear back in October 2002, with fellow host James May joining a year later.
The trio left the show in 2015 and began working on The Grand Tour, which was released the following year exclusively on Amazon Prime.
The cast and crew were filming a special in Vietnam in 2019 when Clarkson, Hammond and May ended up in a very dangerous situation.
The team were caught in a deadly monsoon whilst they were filming for the show. The three presenters were rowing in one of the world’s most dangerous bodies of water, the South China Sea, when the monsoon hit and four people had consequently died.
James was rescued by producers when his boat almost capsized due to a flood of water from the monsoon. Jeremy spoke on the event: “It transpired four people were killed an inch away from us. It’s about the only time health and safety has made the correct decision.”
“I, of course, was fine, but May had to abandon ship as crew boats were filling with water.”
The three petrol heads run DriveTribe, an online community for fellow car enthusiasts, and Clarkson spoke about the Vietnam trip on their YouTube channel: “It was an incredibly dramatic ending, which was entirely accidental.”
“The ending we’d planned, that we’d spent hundreds of thousands of pounds on, that we had researched for months, didn’t happen.
“As a result of the conditions we simply couldn’t complete the shoot but because of the conditions we had one hell of an ending ‒ an astonishing ending.”
