Jesy Nelson drafts in ex-boyfriend as she plans music comeback after solo flop

Former Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson is getting ready to release her second single as a solo artist more than a year after the first sparked a furious backlash.

The 31-year-old Londoner has even enlisted the help of an ex-boyfriend to help her try and crack the charts this time around.

Harry James, who Jesy dated for 16 months before their split in 2018, is directing the video for her new song Cried Out, which was filmed in Twickenham Studios on Friday.

A source told The Sun on Sunday: “This new record marks a fresh start for Jesy – she’s had a year to get over the drama of her ill-fated first single, which was actually met with a lot of critical positivity, and has put the episode behind her.

“She’s poured a lot of her feelings into the lyrics and hopes that the track will mark the beginning of a new era for her. She’s excited and raring to go.”

Working with Harry on the video could court controversy, however, as he directed her last music video for Boyz featuring Nicki Minaj back in October 2021.

The video’s content saw Jesy accused of “blackfishing” by promoting racial stereotypes and the fallout was so severe, it is believed to be part of the reason Jesy parted ways with her record label, Polydor.

Boyz reached a peak position of four in the charts and, although the star had teased she was working on more music, fans were left disappointed when she did not release any further material.

Recent reports, meanwhile, have linked Jesy romantically to rapper Zion Foster with the pair enjoying a romantic getaway to the Caribbean last month at the five-star Sandals resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

The all-inclusive hotel specialises in romantic breaks and honeymoons and features Love Nest Suites overlooking the ocean complete with bathtubs on the balcony.

A source claimed at the time: “It’s early days and there is definitely no label on things but Jesy and Zion have grown close in recent weeks.”

They added: “They are taking things at their own pace and playing it all by ear but they are really enjoying each other’s company.

“Jamaica was the perfect chance to really get to know each other away from where they could be recognised.

“Jesy is in a really great place right now and excited for what’s in store for next year.”
