Joan Collins, 88, bravely opens up about being drugged and raped by her first husband

Dame Joan Collins has revealed that her first husband drugged and raped her while out on their first date together in an open documentary which aired on BBC2 on New Year’s Day.

The 88-year-old actress explained in the feature-length film that she’d suffered a lot of misery and heartache over the years which included a toxic relationship with Peter Holm, a cheating scandal with husband Anthony Newley and near bankruptcy with Ron Kass.

Another shocking admission landed when the Golden Globe Award winner revealed film star Maxwell Reed – her first husband who she’d married out of “shame” – had drugged and raped her on their first date.

She also claimed that Maxwell attempted to pimp her out to “old rich men” who had offered him £10,000 for one night with Joan who was around the age of 17 at the time.

Joan and Reed first clapped eyes on each other when they met on the film set of I Believe In You.

Speaking about their first meeting in the biopic, Joan said: “The gigantic powder blue Buick drew up outside Bayswater Tube station.

“He had an American accent which was quite odd for a man from South London. He was 31, and I was 17 and a virgin – I knew that would cause trouble at home.”

Later the pair ventured back to Reeds London flat where he served her up a rum and coke before the attack happened.

The Dynasty star recalled waking up on his living room floor while he was having sex with her.

In spite of being raped by Reed, Joan carried on seeing him and eventually accepted his hand in marriage.

Reed and Joan married in 1952 but divorced four years later and the actress who was best known for her role of Alexis Colby in the 1980s, moved back to live with her mum.

During their marriage Joan also recalled one evening when Reed attempted to pimp her out to an “old rich man”.

She said: “He gravitated towards rich old men and that night I found out why.

“Max told me, ‘He’ll pay you £10,000 for one night – and I can even watch’. I looked at my handsome, loathsome husband and began to cry. ‘Never in a million years.’

“I went home to Mummy.'”
