Johnny Depp’s ex-girlfriend Kate Moss is set to take the stand during Depp and Amber Heard’s explosive defamation trial this week.
The trial is now in its final week, and Kate Moss’s name became a notable talking point of the case when Amber Heard mentioned her during her testimony earlier this month.
While describing an alleged altercation between Depp, herself and her sister Whitney, Heard explained in court that she thought the Pirates Of The Caribbean actor was about to push her sister down the stairs.
she said: “[Whitney’s] back was to the staircase, and Johnny swings at her.
“I don’t hesitate, I don’t wait — I just, in my head, instantly think of Kate Moss and stairs.
“And I swung at him.”
Johnny’s legal team appeared to celebrate the mention of Kate Moss and it was reported that Amber’s testimony referencing Moss could actually benefit Depp’s case.
US entertainment lawyer Mitra Ahouraian told New York Post: “[Kate Moss] is still allegedly friends with Johnny and her testimony wasn’t allowed to come in before because it wasn’t as relevant.
“That’s one mistake that [Amber Heard] made was bringing up Kate Moss, which potentially opened the door to [Depp’s team] bringing [Moss] on as an impeachment witness – and Moss saying ‘This never happened’.”
And now it seems that Moss will take the stand. Ahead of her appearance at the trial, here’s everything you need to know about the supermodel’s tumultuous relationship with Depp.
Johnny Depp and Kate Moss’s iconic romance
Johnny Depp and Kate Moss became an iconic ’90s power couple when they began dating in 1994.
The pair met in New York at Café Tabac and quickly became one of the most talked-about couples of the decade.
Throughout their relationship, Depp and Moss were often spotted on romantic trips around the world and attended many glamorous events together.
But their relationship also had a dark side. Reports at the time discussed heated arguments they had in public, while one incident even led to the police being called.
In September 1994 Depp was arrested for criminal mischief after he trashed his New York hotel room while Moss was inside. She was unharmed and there is no suggestion he was violent towards her.
A court dropped the charge, on the condition Johnny stayed out of trouble for six months. He paid the Mark Hotel $9,767.12 – including more than $2,000 for damages – and settled the bill for the rest of his stay.
Depp and Moss were known for their wild partying and in 1996 Depp threw Moss a 21st birthday party that resulted in Australian actor Jason Donovan being taken to hospital after a cocaine-induced seizure.
Why did Johnny Depp and Kate Moss split up?
Depp and Moss eventually split in 1997, although for a short period of time in 1998 they were rumoured to be back together.
It was reported that the pair separated because Depp struggled to balance his work commitments.
And speaking to Hello! magazine in 1998, Depp blamed himself for their break up, saying: “I have never got that emotional over a woman before.
“I have been so stupid because we had so much going for our relationship. I’m the one who has to take responsibility for what happened — I was difficult to get on with, I let my work get in the way and I didn’t give her the attention I should have done.”
Are Johnny Depp and Kate Moss still friends?
Despite their rocky relationship, Moss has always spoken highly of Depp since their split.
In a 2012 interview with Vanity Fair, Kate reflected on her relationship with Depp, saying: “There’s nobody that’s ever really been able to take care of me. Johnny did for a bit.
“I believed what he said. Like if I said, ‘What do I do?’ he’d tell me. And that’s what I missed when I left. I really lost that gauge of somebody I could trust.
“Nightmare. Years and years of crying. Oh, the tears!”
The supermodel never publicly addressed the rumours that Depp had pushed her down the stairs, but she may do so during her testimony this week.
The New York Post has reported that a source close to Depp confirmed to them that Moss is still “supportive of Depp”.
The source said: “Amber mentioned an ex of Johnny’s that clearly she felt was not supportive of him, which couldn’t be further from the truth”.
