Jonathan Ross' feuds – Sheridan Smith TV fury, Wayne Rooney punch vow and Sachs scandal

Jonathan Ross, known for his presenting roles and self titled chat show, has been embroiled in his fair share of controversy throughout his 35 year long career.

The comedian, critic and actor seems to have tried his hand at it all and has met some huge names along the way.

However, with great fame has come some great falling-outs and misunderstandings with big stars.

Ever wondered what happened with Sachsgate or why Wayne Rooney said he “would have hit” him?

Keep reading to find out some of the biggest feuds that have surrounded the star.

Tom Hardy

The Dark Knight Rises actor was left embarrassed on Jonathan’s show after he played footage from Hardy’s modelling days.

The footage showed Tom on The Big Breakfast back in 1998, during which he won a modelling contest.

An insider claimed that he “wasn’t happy about the footage being shown” and “said he looked like a total idiot”.

When Tom walked off, Ross looked at the audience and told them that the Hollywood star was “genuinely p***** off with him”.

Despite their on screen altercation, the source then claimed that the pair made up after the show.

Andrew Sachs

Jonathan was involved in the infamous Sachsgate incident that occured on the Russell Brand show back in 2008.

Russell was hosting the show with his co-star and actor Andrew Sachs was scheduled to call into the show, but when he didn’t pick up, Brand and Ross left rude messages on his voicemail.

Brand had briefly been in a relationship with Sach’s granddaughter Georgina and Ross shouted down the phone that Brand had “f*****” her.

The following messages were poor attempts at apologies to the Fawlty Towers star as they descended into mockery – at one point Ross asked to marry him.

Ross was later suspended from the BBC for 12 weeks and the BBC was fined £150,000 by Ofcom.

Robbie Williams

Jonathan welcomed comedians David Walliams and Micky Flanagan, Loose Woman Judi Love, rapper Megan Thee Stallion and singer Robbie Williams onto his ITV show.

They joined the presenter in the studio and Robbie took the chance to insult Ross as he thought the show was yet to start recording.

He grumpily remarked that the seats were “a lot comfier” than the “normal s*** he makes them sit on”.

Jonathan scathingly hit back and told him not to “start again with all that” and tried to maintain composure by asking him about his shirt.

Robbie questioned whether they’d started recording and Jonathan confirmed that they had.

Williams quickly covered his tracks and apologised for his comment.

Sheridan Smith

Sheridan Smith reportedly threatened to sack her backstage team whilst she was on the Jonathan Ross Show.

The actress was left fuming and inside sources have claimed that she was “not treated with kindness” during her time on the show.

The Gavin and Stacey actress was on the ITV talk show with Take That frontman Gary Barlow, Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson, actors Riz Ahmed and Stephen Merchant along with musician Sting.

Sheridan was reportedly less than impressed with her experience on the show and the source said she was “furious” once recording was over.

They told The Sun: “She claimed the atmosphere was chauvinistic and there was an air of misogyny. She also claimed that she felt she had not been treated with kindness.”

The source continued on to say that it was “clear that Sheridan was upset with her team backstage after filming”.

A spokesperson for the show said that they were planning on “investigating” the issue and claimed that she “seemed to have a great time on the show”.

However, after clarification, it was also reported that Sheridan had assured Jonathan himself that it wasn’t the presenter that had left her fuming.

Wayne Rooney

The footballer has previously admitted that he “would have hit” Jonathan Ross after he made comments about the sports star’s parents.

Claims have been made that Ross made fun of them after seeing an image of them on holiday in Mexico back in 2003.

Rooney spoke to the Daily Mail and said: “That’s the one thing that really pissed me off. Still, to this day, if I saw Jonathan Ross I would speak to him and ask him why. Ten years ago, I wouldn’t have spoken to him. I would have hit him.”

He continued on: “If you are having a go at me, no problem. I’m in the public eye, I get it, but not my parents. I felt that was really unfair.”

Back in 2019, Wayne had also joked with Eddie Hearn that he wanted the boxing promoter to “get him a fight” with Jonathan as he “just wants to get in the ring with him”.
