Kanye West has compared himself to Shakespeare and plans to release a book of poems inspired by his “idol”.
The rapper’s plan comes after he published efforts online titled Divorce and Dead – which rhymed “dead with “head”, “fed”, “bread” and “instead”.
A source said: “Kanye loves Shakespeare and has been in awe of his genius for a long time.
“He has been open about enjoying how the plots of his plays were so clever and his sonnets so moving.
“It would not be an understatement to say that he channelled sonnets in his lyrics.
“He is bringing poetry back to the masses and he loves that too.
“He has been talking about a book for a while.”
West has repeatedly compared himself to Shakespeare and said in 2013 he was the bard “in the flesh”.
He said in an interview: “I am Warhol! I am the No1 most impactful artist of our generation! I am Shakespeare in the flesh!”
West, 44, released his Dead poem on Instagram earlier this week after he put out a music video in which he appeared to kidnap and kill his ex-wife Kim Kardashian’s new boyfriend Pete Davidson, 28.
Prior to that in a separate emotional poem he shared on Instagram, Kanye compared his divorce to Kim Kardashian to Covid and getting his hands burned.
Kanye split from Kim, 41, last year and he’s repeatedly lashed out at the reality star and Pete Davidson recently.
Last week, after their divorced was finalised when Kim was declared legally single in a US court, Kanye shared what appears to be a poem about their divorce and how it makes him feel.
Kanye shared a post with the word “Divorce” written in red letters – underneath were words which compared divorce to other feelings, injuries and illnesses.
The rapper also compared the end of a marriage to “full blown Covid”, “walking on glass”, “running through a glass wall” and like “your hand was burned on the stove”.
Kanye wrote: “Divorce feels like your kids were snatched from your control/ Divorce feels like you’ve been shot and traffic is slow/Divorce feels like heavy breathing.
“Divorce feels like grandma never got over that cold/ Divorce feels like suffocating/ Barely breathing.”
