Canadian comedian Katherine Ryan, 38, has fought back after finding out the house next to her London home had built a balcony overlooking her swimming pool without planning permission.
After discovering what her neighbours had done, Katherine contacted her local council in a bid to have the structure removed.
Katherine, whose semi-autobiographical sitcom The Duchess recently aired on Netflix, told Mail Online: “I’m not a snitch, but their prejudicing of my property actually devalues my property.”
Katherine, 38, who stars in Channel 4’s 8 Out Of 10 Cats, lives with civil partner Bobby Kootstra, their ten-month-old son Frederick, and her daughter Violet, 12, from a previous relationship.
She claimed that her neighbour’s new addition has also raised privacy concerns.
“I have 12-year-old girls in the swimming pool and then a bunch of builders like leaning over that balcony smoking,” she said.
“I rang the council. I feel bad about it, but then I convinced myself not to. They have to take it down.”
Katherine, who studied city planning at university in Toronto, added: “Due to my background in urban planning, I was able to report them.”
The comedian regularly shares snaps of her home life with her 830,000 Instagram followers. She often takes photos in her sprawling back garden which features the lavish outdoor pool.
Katherine and Bobby dated as teenagers and were reunited when she filmed Who Do You Think You Are? in her hometown of Sarnia in Canada.
Talking about their reunion on The Jonathan Ross Show, she said: “During filming I went for a night out with my sister and bumped into my first love Bobby – we dated for about a year when I was fifteen and then we split.”
“I haven’t seen him in 20 years. I’m in an old jumper, he looked like a full blood Hemsworth brother, just hot… I hadn’t seen him in 20 years.”
“When we were young, I was deeply in love with him. We were prom king and queen.”
The couple entered into a civil partnership in 2019.
