Kelis' husband Mike Mora dies aged 37 after stage 4 stomach cancer battle

Kelis’ husband Mike Mora has sadly passed away at the age of 37.

In September 2021, the renowned photographer revealed that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer.

The star was initially only given 18 months left to live.

Confirming the heartbreaking news, Kelis’ representatives released a statement while asking fans for respect and privacy at this time.

The statement from Steve Satterwaite at Red Light Management read: “Sadly, it’s true that Mike Mora has passed away.

“We would ask all to respect Kelis and her family’s privacy as of right now. Thank you.”

The couple share a son named Shepherd, 6, and a daughter who was born in September 2020, but her name has yet to be revealed.

Mike was relatively private about his cancer diagnosis however he later revealed his symptoms started “last year’ with the “worst pain” in his stomach.

The singer’s husband then confirmed that doctors diagnosed him with the most advanced form of stomach cancer.

Sharing an update on his health in a post online, Mike wrote: “I thought the whole time that I just had an ulcer. With no idea what was about to come my way.

“Here I was, in a hospital bed, during the middle of the pandemic. All alone.”

The star also revealed he wanted to be open about his story in order to help others.

He continued: “I want to be able to help those that might be experiencing something like this — a life-altering disease full of questions and doubt — maybe, hopefully. By showing that it’s possible to make it through.

“You always see people post about how life is too short. How you should reach out to those you love no matter where life has taken you. It is the truth. Don’t take your time here, your time with friends, family, for granted. S— can be over just like that.

“I never thought this could happen to me,” he confessed.

“At just 36, with 3 kiddos, and a wife that loves me. I want to be able to help those that might experience something, maybe, hopefully. By showing that it’s possible to make it through.”

Since hearing the news of his death, fans have shared their support to Kelis online.

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: “Could never imagine loosing my wife. My heart goes out to kelis and their kid. Cancer f*****g sucks.”

Another said: “Just read about Kelis’s husband, Mike Mora. Sad. #RipMikeMora.”
