But the decision hasn’t gone down well online, with many questioning why the children’s channel has made this decision.
One Twitter user said: “I’m not sure why the children’s channel CITV are showing the Queen’s funeral. Surely, children’s programmes would have been the right choice.”
A second added: “I agree. Children’s channels should offer an alternative to young children.”
“Normal programming should have continued on all other ITV channels,” commented a third.
But others defended the network’s decision, with one person saying: “She was the Children’s Queen as well. Kids in my extended family come to family funerals. They understand death far better than most adults.”
Before a second added: “Actually I think it’s a nice gesture and they will have memories as adults to remember the occasion.”
“It’s the last time any of us living will see the end of a Queen, it’s a historical occasion. I mean there weren’t loads of channels for her father’s funeral since many people didn’t have a TV. I mean Easter is talked about on TV and that’s about a funeral ,” said a third.
