Kim Kardashian has revealed she scrapped a grim R Kelly joke form her Saturday Night Live monologue after receiving advice form comedian Amy Schumer.
In the latest episode of the Kardashians – which just landed on Hulu and Disney+ – the star admits she paid comedian Amy a visit to discuss her hosting stint and was put off including a joke about the infamous rapper.
In the doc, Kim said: “I know I have privilege but I still struggle. Like most of the things that I wear, it’s really hard to pee. It’s like a whole ordeal.
“Let’s put it this way, if R Kelly dressed like me, he may have stayed out of trouble.”
“Oh my god…,” Amy laughed at the comments.
Shaking her head, the actress insisted: “It’s too long. It’s a long way to go for like…”
In June 2002, the Chicago Sun-Times investigated a video tape which was anonymously left in the mail at a reporter’s home, allegedly showing I Believe I Can Fly singer R. Kelly having sex with a teenage girl.
That same year, he was indicted by a grand jury on 21 child pornography counts in Chicago – he denied all charges and pleaded not guilty in court. However, a jury acquitted him of all charges, concluding that they could not prove that the girl on the tape was a minor.
He was found guilty of nine counts of being the ringleader of a racketeering and sex trafficking scheme that preyed upon women and children last year.
Elsewhere in the episode, Amy also advised Kim against making a reference to her sex tape drama with ex-boyfriend Ray J, amid claims that ‘unreleased’ footage of the former couple was about to be leaked.
“Hey guys, it’s really great to be here hosting Saturday Night Live. I know, I’m surprised to see me here too.
“When they asked, I said: “You want me to host? Why? I haven’t had a movie premiere in a really long time”.
“Actually, I’ve only had that one movie come out and no one even told me it was premiering. It must have slipped my mom’s mind.”
After clarifying that the ‘movie’ was her sex tape, and the joke hinged on the theory that Kris was somehow behind the leak, the I Feel Pretty star suggested the joke should be scrapped.
“I think I just wouldn’t do any sex tape stuff. This moment in time, this piece of art will live on and people might not remember…,” she added.
Kim ultimately kept the quip about the sex tape alongside a controversial comment on OJ Simpson.
