King Charles III has impressed us all since he was thrust onto the throne after the sad death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

But it should come as no surprise, as a number of celebrities who have spent time with His Royal Highness have spoke of his true nature.

The grandfather-of-five, who at the age of three became heir apparent, fulfilled his destiny in September as he became the King.

Known for his charitable endeavours, particularly his efforts to support youths with The Prince’s Trust, Charles has worked with more than 400 charities throughout his life – something which earned him GQ’s Man of the Year Lifetime Achievement award for Philanthropy in 2018.

So to celebrate his momentous birthday, we’re taking a look at the celebs who have given an insight into what Charles is really like.

Miriam Margolyes

The Iconic star recalled her Charles ‘made us all laugh’

The hilariously candid actress Miriam Margolyes once revealed she feels “very protective” about Charles.

The 81-year-old opened up about the now King in her memoir, This Much is True.

“We have met a handful of times over the years but I was amazed when Lindy my agent rang me to say, ‘Prince Charles has invited you to go and spend three nights in a house party in Sandringham’,” she said.

She described the King and Queen Consort as “cracking good hosts” and revealed she went swimming with the latter.

Miriam and the rest of the star-studded guests at the event, which included Stephen Fry, were treated to Charles performing a monologue written by Barry Humphries.

“The prince is a fine actor, he had a superb Aussie accent and he made us all laugh,” she recalled.

She added: “I think he’s a good man who cares a great deal for the country, and I can’t bear the horrid things people write about him and the other members of the Royal Family.”

Luke Evans

The Welsh actor narrated ITV’s programme Charles: 50 Years A Prince in 2019

Welsh hunk Luke Evans has always spoken fondly of our new Monarch, with the 43-year-old describing him as an “honorary Welshman.”

During an interview on Good Morning Britain in September, Luke spoke of Charles’ natural ability to “find a common ground” with whoever he talks to.

“He has been a wonderful representative of our country,” he said.

Luke, who narrated ITV’s 2019 programme Charles: 50 Years A Prince, said that he has met Charles several times” over the last decade because of his work as an ambassador for The Prince’s Trust.

The actor and singer added: “It’s always been a very enjoyable experience I have to say.

“I think that’s one thing you notice when you’re with King Charles: his company. It doesn’t matter what walk of life you’re from, what age you are, he finds a common ground, and makes you feel that you deserve to be there.”

Carol Vorderman

Carol has made plenty of appearances with the new King during her career

Carol Vorderman, who is an ambassador for The Prince’s Trust, is another celeb who has high regard for Charles.

When the 74-year-old was appointed as the new King last month, Carol posted a heartfelt post on Instagram with nothing but praise.

She said: “Long Live The King. I wish King Charles every element of peace, joy and strength during his reign. I believe he will become a great King. For decades before it became popular, he has championed environmental issues and young people.

“One thing I know beyond any doubt whatsoever is that King Charles believes that no matter your background, no matter your story so far, there is goodness and a hope within us all,” she added.

She said she has “only words of respect and love towards [Charles and Camilla]”.

Joan Rivers

Joan bonded with Charles over their love of painting

The iconic late comedian Joan Rivers was always speaking highly of Charles.

She was a guest at his wedding to Camilla in 2005, and when he turned 60 three years later, she performed at his birthday gala – which raised money for his Prince’s Trust charity.

Speaking on Larry King Live in 2005, Joan said Charles and his wife Camilla Parker Bowles are “just fabulous”.

“I was lucky enough to be invited to paint with him in the South of France, which I’ve done,” she added:

“And he’s just got a great sense of humour. And he always thinks I’m funny.“

When the comedian sadly passed away in 2014, Charles called her “utterly irreplaceable” as he paid tribute to his dear friend.

Rod Stewart

Rod performed at Charles’ 60th birthday – as well as the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations

Rock legend Rod Stewart is no stranger to showing his face at a Prince Charles event.

The 77-year-old was previously an ambassador for The Prince’s Trust, and he performed at Charles’ 60th birthday – as well as the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier this year.

In June, Rod spoke to Naga Munchetty on BBC Breakfast where he said he thought Charles would be the one royal most likely to get up and dance at the Jubilee.

He said this was because: “I love him, and my wife absolutely adores him.

“She [the late Queen] has been so much a part of my life she’s almost like a sister, she has always been in the background,” he added, as Independent reports.

Barbra Streisand

It turns out King Charles is a big fan of Barbra Streisand – and it sounds like the feeling is mutual.

Speaking on Lorraine, Barbra explained that they first met in 1974 while she was recording in San Diego and he was serving in the Royal Navy.

“He asked to meet me, so he came to the recording studio,” she said.

“I offered him a sip of tea and I thought, ‘They didn’t have to test me for poison or something? No.'”

She later said: “We became friends, and I loved spending some time at Highgrove for a weekend fundraiser and going through his gardens.”

Years later, then-Prince Charles sent Barbra a bouquet of glowers to her hotel room which had been picked from the royal gardens – but her assistant thought a “fan called Charles” had sent them.

Barbra also once joked that “if she had played her cards right, she could have wound up being the first Jewish princess”, as she and King Charles met “before he met Diana”.
