Kirstie Alley nearly left husband for John Travolta and was desperate for Swayze fling

Actress Kirstie Alley wasn’t shy about her feelings for her Hollywood co-stars despite claiming she remained faithful in her marriages.

The beloved actress – whose death at the age of 71 was announced on Monday (December 5) – previously opened up about her romantic history back in 2018 during her wild stint on Celebrity Big Brother UK.

During her time on the Channel 5 show, the blonde bombshell confessed she “almost ran off” with her Look Who’s Talking leading man John Travolta back in 1968.

But he wasn’t the only on, after the twice-divorced starlet spoke elsewhere about her feelings for another co-star – the late Patrick Swayze – however both stars decided not to pursue an affair in order to focus on their marriages.

While delighting viewers up and down the country during her time on the reality TV show back in 2015, Kirstie shared some of her past romantic efforts with her fellow housemates.

Paying special attention to Grease hunk Travolta, she admitted: “I think I kissed Travolta. I almost ran off and married John. I did love him, I still love him.”

However, her marriage to Bob Alley at the time prevented her from striking up a relationship with the Saturday Night Fever star.

She went on: “If I hadn’t been married, I would’ve gone and married him and I would’ve been in an airplane because he has his own plane.”

Though she didn’t specify when her infatuation with the Hollywood hunk first started, the two first appeared together onscreen when the starred in the comedy Look Who’s Talking back in 1989.

Their film saw Kirstie take on the role of a pregnant woman who falls in love with a taxi driver (Travolta) after he takes her to hospital to give birth.

It’s fair to say their first film together was a raging success with viewers all over the world rushing to their local theatres to watch the hit comedy, which saw them reprise their role for the sequels Look Who’s Talking Too (1990) and Look Who’s Talking Now (1993).

And they weren’t the only Hollywood sensations to join the cast, after John insisted Kirtstie’s onscreen son to be played by his close friend Bruce Willis.

The loved-up couple remained lifelong friends throughout their careers, but she confessed in 2013 during an appearance on the Howard Stern that the Blow Out star was “the greatest love of my life” and that “it took me years not to look at John as a romantic interest”.

In 2018, Kirstie expanded on her love for the actor on the Dan Wootton Interview podcast, noting that not carrying on an affair with John was “one of the hardest things I’ve ever done”.

“It was the hardest decision I’ve ever made because I was madly in love with him – we were fun and funny together,” she said. “It wasn’t a sexual relationship because I’m not going to cheat on my husband.

“But, you know, I think there are things that are way worse than sexual relationships, than cheating on someone that way. I consider what I did even worse because I actually let myself fall in love with him and stay in love with him for a long time.”
