Lady Gaga's most outrageous outfits – animal activism to giant latex tentacles

Since she burst on the scene in 2008 with her hit pop single Just Dance, Lady Gaga has consistently sent shockwaves throughout the entertainment industry.

From provocative lyrics to wild outfits, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta has touched the lives of her adoring audience and never fails to make a statement, whether you like it or not.

A titan in her field, Miss Germanotta has received Golden Globes, Grammys and Oscars throughout her 14-year long career and has also dabbled in acting, most notably as Ally in the critically acclaimed A Star Is Born and as Patrizia Gucci in House Of Gucci.

Her vocal versatility shines through in her outfits, costumes and stage presence.

The singer is well known for her chameleon-like style, flirting with flamboyant dresses made from stuffed animals to taking a more demure stance of sleek ball gowns and evening attire.

Some of her wackiest outfits have been the talking point of the last decade, as she has decided to step out in some truly bizarre fashion choices.

The infamous meat dress caused a stir amongst animal rights advocates and the vegan and vegetarian communities, while other kooky looks were just downright questionable.

Nevertheless, whether she’s draped in meat or stood in head-to-toe tentacle couture, there’s no denying she sure knows how to make an entrance.

The 35-year-old attended the 2010 VMA Awards in a dress made of slabs of raw beef, a move which shook viewers and earned itself the award of Time’s Top Fashion Statement of the year.

She noted that the look was a tongue-in-cheek nod to the fur industry

Lady Gaga asked vegetarian singer Cher to look after part of her outfit and told the audience over the microphone: “I never thought I’d be asking Cher to hold my meat purse!”

The songstress made another animal related comment with her Kermit The Frog dress, an outfit she said she “really loved” as she thought it was a “commentary on not wearing fur”.

She also admitted that when she tried on the outfit, her whole team “laughed the house down” because the wacky number looked like “a pile of dead Kermits”.

One of Gaga’s most theatrical looks was a “sea urchin” outfit she wore in Paris.

The Grammy award winner arrived at a club wearing a seemingly unsuspecting silver frock, but began to slowly inflate the garment as, one by one, giant chrome spikes began to pop out from her person.

Continuing the inflatable theme, Gaga sported a nude bodysuit covered in plastic, transparent bubbles during her Fame Ball tour.

The hitmaker was inspired by the dress’ original, but remade the garment herself as it’s “in a museum somewhere” for “half a million dollars”.

Possibly one of Gaga’s wildest looks, her giant blue latex performance piece draped in tentacles and dappled with white splodges is nothing short of magnificent.

Accessorised with a pair of white heeled boots, the singer wore this outfit during her ARTPOP tour and has also worn different variations in white and black.

Now, with award season in full swing, all eyes will be on Gaga.

And on Sunday (February 27) she will attend the SAG Awards, where she is nominated for two gongs.
