Lily James defends raunchy sex scenes in Pam & Tommy and brands them 'essential'

Lily James has spoken out in defence about the raunchy sex scenes in her TV series which revolves around the romance between Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee.

In the hotly anticipated show which airs February 2, Lily, who’ll play Baywatch star Pamela, will act out Pamela’s and Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee’s infamous 90s sex tape.

Lily, 32, will be joined by Marvel’s Sebastian Stan, 39, for the erotic scenes and claimed that the saucy sex scenes are “essential” to the script.

She said: “We really felt that the sex scenes had to be a part of the story and had to be essential to the script and progressing their relationship and looking at what happened.”

Lily added: “It was a really great constant conversation and nothing was set in stone.”

Pamela, 54, and Tommy 59, are one of Hollywood’s most notorious nineties couples, known for their insatiable and at times volatile love for one another.

The Pamela and Tommy docu-series will explore their colorful relationship with the show’s storyline being based around how their honeymoon sex tape was stolen and leaked to the public in the early 90s.

Downton Abbey actress Lily admitted she loved researching the Baywatch star for the role.

She said: “She was one of the biggest stars on the planet and an icon. I got a lot out of this. It was definitely the biggest acting challenge of my life.”

“It felt alive and I really loved that.”

Brit actress Lily teased about not nicking the famous red swimsuit from the costume department when she was filming for the show.

She revealed: “I asked to keep it, and they said, ‘no’. I should have just stuck it in my handbag.”

Pamela and Tommy met in December 1994 and took a holiday to Cancún six weeks later – 96 hours into their getaway, they got married.

They filed a $10 million lawsuit to attempt to prevent the tape from being published but the suit was eventually dropped.

The pair share two sons, Brandon, 25, and Dylan, 24, and called their marriage off in 1998.

The first three episodes of Pam & Tommy will be available on Disney+ and Hulu from February 2.
