Loose Women viewers told to switch off as Ruth Langsford issues stern warning

Loose Women host Ruth Langsford ruffled viewers feathers as she issued a spoiler warning for Emmerdale, which had viewers switching over or muting their televisions.

Ruth sat on the panel alongside Linda Robson, Coleen Nolan and Carol McGiffin, who welcomed Emmerdale actress Lisa Riley on to the show.

Lisa plays Mandy Dingle in the long running ITV soap and is currently caught up in a huge plot line, with her son Vinny recently eloping with his now-wife Liv Flaherty.

She joined via video link and discussed the upcoming story, but host Ruth had to interrupt and issue a spoiler alert before they played a clip from the upcoming show.

Ruth, who wore her honey blonde locks in a bob style with a beige and brown jumper, addressed the audience: “All you Emmerdale fans, spoiler alert! I want to give you time to turn the telly down or look away, because we don’t like to spoil it for everyone.”

She then went on to play the exclusive clip from the next day’s episode, in which – spoiler alert – Mandy Dingle found out that Vinny, her ex-boyfriend Paul’s son, is actually married to partner Liv.

Lisa spoke on the storyline, joking that it was a “Loose Women dilemma”.

She also spoke about ITV’s new “super soap schedule” as Emmerdale shifts to a new 7:30pm time-slot, with fellow ITV soap Coronation Street shifting to 8pm from now on.

And Lisa couldn’t help but touch on whether comedian Miriam Margoyles would ever join Emmerdale as part of the Dingle family, and why she doesn’t want her character to reunite with Paddy Kirk.

Riley tweeted out after her appearance: “So, so, so lovely being back with the girls on Loose Women. Such a beautiful bunch of ladies, felt like I was going home.”

The “super soap schedule” Lisa discussed is part of a new programming plan for ITV.

From March, both Coronation Street and Emmerdale have shifted to new time slots in an attempt to build “a strong block of continuing drama”.

Emmerdale, originally broadcast at 7pm, will now be shown in a new “optimal” slot half an hour later.

Corrie has been moved to hour long episodes three times a week on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays.

The changes were introduced to allow the ITV National and International Evening News more time to report from outside of London and highlight more areas of the UK.
