ITV’s very own sweetheart Lorraine Kelly has hit back at a troll that insulted her loyal viewers on Twitter.
The 62-year-old, who presents her own self titled show on ITV, took to the social media website to confront a keyboard warrior who had called her fans “unemployed and feckless”.
The presenter clearly didn’t appreciate the badmouthing and decided to take matters into her own hands.
After Susanna Reid’s recently interview with Boris Johnson, the journalist told the current Prime Minister that Lorraine was waiting, to which he questioned her on who Lorraine was.
A shocked Susanna answered that Lorraine is a “legend,” but Boris misunderstood and thought he was about to have another interview with Lorraine Kelly herself.
As the camera returned back to the Lorraine studio, the presenter thanked Susanna for her “masterclass in political interviewing”.
The political editor for Daily Mirror Pippa Crerar tweeted out: “Boris Johnson ends excellent Susanna Reid interview by asking: ‘Who is Lorraine?’ and there goes another 1.5 million votes,” and signed off with a grimacing face emoji.
One reply read: “The only people who watch Lorraine are the unemployed and the feckless. People like you, Pippa, and your target audience. I think that, far from losing Boris votes, it will probably increase his stock value enormously. Who are these ‘celebs’ that you fawn over anyway?”
An upset Lorraine then defended her viewership in a quote tweet that clearly outlined her rage toward the Twitter troll.
The ITV presenter then clapped back with: “You can say what you like about me, but don’t [you] dare have a go at my fantastic viewers. This is beyond patronising.”
Fans flocked to the comments to defend Kelly over her sweet sentiment as one told her they “agree,” as she is a “full time nurse” who watches the programme.
Another said that despite the fact that they regularly tune in, they are “neither unemployed nor feckless”.
One supportive follower admitted that when they work from home, they sometimes “have the show on in the background” as they “love the topics she discusses” and that they “wish she could watch her daily”.
Another disappointed fan pointed out that they are “unable to work due to mental and physical disability” and branded the troll as “insulting”.
