Lorraine swipes at Harry and Meghan as she says they're 'not living in real world'

Lorraine Kelly couldn’t resist another barbed swipe at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on her morning show this Monday.

Speaking to one royal expert about the recent Spotify controversy, which has seen various musicians withdraw their music until the streaming giant addresses Joe Rogan’s allegedly anti-vax podcast, the host couldn’t help herself as she said they’re “not living in the real world”.

Harry and Meghan are well-known for their own deal with Spotify, which hosts their Archewell podcast.

The royal commentator pointed out that Harry and Meghan “haven’t really done too much for their money with Spotify”, explaining: “It’s over a year since we last heard from them. Potentially it’s in the pipeline, Spotify were having to get involved to give them a helping hand with their own podcast.”

Lorraine added: “Could it be that that’s the end of it? Who knows?”

She went on to discuss Harry being “ridiculed” for suggesting anyone who is unhappy in their jobs should “just quit it”, and as the royal commentator said: “This is his role as Chief Impact Officer of a wellness start-up called BetterUp, if you’re following me. It’s a bit difficult.

“Are they in the real world?” he quizzed.

And Lorraine didn’t hold back as she said: “No.”

He went on: “On one hand they’re talking about Covid misinformation, and on the other hand you’re living in a $14million mansion talking about the benefits of people being able to quit their jobs and just relax.”

“No, you can’t take a break unfortunately,” Lorraine agreed. “Well, maybe you can do five minutes.”

Harry and Meghan have both involved themselves in the row, as a spokesperson for their charity Archewell released a statement which read: “Hundreds of millions of people are affected by the serious harms of rampant mis- and disinformation every day. Last April, our co-founders began expressing concerns to our partners at Spotify about the all-too-real consequences of Covid-19 misinformation on its platform.

“We have continued to express our concerns to Spotify to ensure changes to its platform are made to help address this public health crisis. We look to Spotify to meet this moment and are committed to continuing our work together as it does.”

Meanwhile, Spotify itself addressed the concerns of its listeners with a statement which promised an information hub would be made available, with warnings on content which discusses Covid-19.

CEO Daniel Ek said: “We are working to add a content advisory to any podcast episode that includes a discussion about Covid-19.

“This advisory will direct listeners to our dedicated Covid-19 Hub, a resource that provides easy access to data-driven facts, up-to-date information as shared by scientists, physicians, academics and public health authorities around the world, as well as links to trusted sources.”

It is set to be rolled out in the next few days.

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
