Love Island bosses flogging booze and snacks as ITV show prepares to launch

Love Island bosses have been given the green light to cash in with a range of booze and snacks.

ITV bosses filed legal documents last year revealing they wanted to start flogging food and drinks to tie in with the hit show.

And now they can start filling supermarket shelves with Love Island bevvies, nuts, crisps, chocolate and buns after they were granted trademarks to sell the grub.

ITV had also asked for legal protection from the government’s Intellectual Property Office to flog a range of themed ready meals, sauces, dressings, desserts and dips from the reality show.

UK government trademark lawyers approved the application this month and it will remain law for 10 years.

The trademark says it covers: “Non-alcoholic beverages; beers; ale; lager; stout; porter; shandy; mineral and aerated waters and other non-alcoholic drinks; fruit drinks and fruit juices; cordials; mixtures containing any of the aforesaid goods; syrups and other preparations for making the aforesaid.”

The trademarks will give ITV chiefs freedom to market the goods exclusively with Love Island branding and prevent other firms from cashing in.

Meanwhile, pictures have emerged showing the villa for the new series in Mallorca is nearly finished.

With just two weeks left to go until the launch, the new pad has six bedrooms, a fire pit and a 20m swimming pool surrounded by wooden decking.

Earlier this year, managing director of ITV’s media and entrainment, Kevin Lygo, said they are moving to a new mansion to boost the show.

He said: “We didn’t own [the last property].

“We rented it and we are choosing a new house for this summer so that is all secrecy.”

Applications for the show are already open and it will be aired later in the year.

Almost three million people tuned in live to watch Millie Court and Liam Reardon crowned the winners last year.
