Dami Hope’s family have been forced to “switch off” his notifications and disable the ability for Love Island fans to make comments under his Instagram photos after he received an onslaught of “hateful” messages.
The 26 year old islander caused shockwaves during Thursday night’s show when he decided to recouple with new bombshell Summer Botwe instead of his original partner Indiyah Pollock.
But after the episode aired and following Dami’s actions during Casa Amor week, trolls appeared to attack his character online which meant his family had no other choice but to step in.

Taking to Dami’s Instagram story, a message was written which read: “We understand that LI (Love Island) fans are very interested in the show but the hateful DMs/comments we’ve received over the last couple of days are so uncalled for.
“To protect the well-being of Dami’s family and close friends, we decided to turn them off.”
The news comes after Dami’s family were forced to defend him after a teaser clip of the programme “painted him as the villain.”
Once the clip was released on social media, one person said: “The producers did him dirty ngl, they really making him out as the Casa Amor Villian.”
To which his family responded: “Let’s talk about it! The trailer really did nothing but painted him as the villain, while the episode showed that was not the case.”
Dami turned the villa on its head with his shocking recoupling decision on Thursday night.
But despite his change of partner, Indiyah trusted her instincts and decided to do the same and recouple with Deji Adeniyi leaving Dami fuming.
During the recoupling, Dami explained: “I like Indiyah a lot and I feel like we have a genuine connection”. He then went on to mention that he explored other connections in the villa since she departed.
He continued: “What I’m trying to say is that summer’s not over, I think it just started.”
But when Indiyah walked in with Deji on her arm, she appeared confident and later told him “may the best heartbreaker win”.
Seeing the explosive scene on their screens, fans jumped to Twitter to share their thoughts, with one person writing: “Dami and Indiyah’s recoupling was better than the ‘main’ recoupling because we get the same heartbroken girl every dam year but Indiyah’s and Dami’s was just unexpected and the tension Wheww.”
Love Island airs nightly on ITV2 and ITV Hub at 9pm
