Love Island fans slam Jacques' apology as they beg him to address co-stars

Love Island fans have been left underwhelmed by Jacques O’Neill’s recent statement as he failed to “apologise” to his co-stars amid bullying claims.

As rumours began to circulate regarding Jacques’ behaviour on and off the ITV show and previous contestant Remi Lambert shared his views on Jacques’ taunting antics towards him, fans were desperately waiting to hear the rugby player’s side.

But although Jacques admitted that “there is work that needs to be done” and that he takes “full responsibility for his actions”, the Love Island star, who left the show prematurely, failed to say sorry to Remi or Tasha Ghouri for his behaviour towards them.

Taking to Twitter, unimpressed fans shared their thoughts on Jacques’ statement.

One person said: “Does Jacques ever take accountability or just play the mental health card? Just apologise to Remi and move on.”

Another penned: “It’s always #BeKind to avoid holding someone accountable. This is why people like Jacques can be successful and manipulate the public into sympathising with him. Just don’t be a hater and send death threats and s**t but you can absolutely call out his behaviour.”

While a third chimed: “Jacques never owns up to the consequences of his actions. He always deflects and blames some aspect of his life. Maybe it’s time he grew up.”

On Thursday night (August 11), Jacques released a lengthy statement on his Instagram which read: “I just want to acknowledge the situation that’s happening right now and apologise if my behaviour has caused offence or been misinterpreted over the last few weeks.

“I genuinely have no bad feelings towards anyone and I’ve not meant for anything to come across that way at all. It was not my intention and I’m genuinely sorry if it has.

“Life has been very overwhelming recently and admittedly I’ve probably not handled myself in the best possible way.”

He continued: “I take full responsibility for my actions. I’m aware I’m far from perfect and that there is work that needs to be done on myself.”

The ITV contestant also mentioned that he decided to do therapy.

He explained: “I had my first therapy session on Monday which really took me out of my comfort zone, I know I have needed this for years but it’s only now I have decided to get help. I know it’s a step in the right direction for me even after just one session.

“I’m not asking for sympathy, I just want to acknowledge the situation and move forward as positively as I can. However, I know this can be used as an important lesson for me moving forward and over the coming years.

“I hope I can become the person I want to be and use this new platform to spread a positive message.”

“I’m so sorry to anyone that I have let down.”
