Love Island's Amber and Dami 'doomed' as she feels 'trapped' by him, says expert

Love Island couple Amber Beckford and Dami Hope seemed to have hit the rocks this week as fans are speculating over their true feelings for each other.

Viewers have been discussing the couple on social with one fan sharing a clip of Dami trying to hug Amber from behind and Amber shrugging him off.

The user said: “SHE FKN HATES THIS MAN!!! SOMEONE SAVE DAMI #loveisland”

Another added: “She literally cringes every time he comes close to her”

While a third penned: “Ekin-Su at the end of the episode said Dami doesn’t like Amber so it seems to me that Dami is just a better actor than Amber.”

We chatted exclusively to Sex and Relationship Expert Rhian Kivtis who revealed her thoughts on the couple’s behaviour in the snippet.

She said: “Based on the body language in this clip, Amber’s not demonstrating that she’s at ease with him. She doesn’t seem to naturally desire to lean into him or accept his embrace.

“Her behaviour is revealing because it’s instinctual – as he puts his arms around her, she reacts with her whole body, pushing him away and almost fighting him off as she frees her arms.

“Notice how, at the end of this short clip, she touches her face, which can be a sign of feeling stressed or overwhelmed. This could be because she felt trapped in the moment when her arms were restricted.

“It looks like her behaviour was an instinctive response because she moved so quickly, with a sudden, jerky motion.”

Rhian continued: “When we feel drawn to someone, especially in the early stages of a relationship, we tend to respond positively when they instigate physical affection because we want to offer them signals that show our feelings are reciprocal. When there’s sexual chemistry at play, you’d expect to see her leaning into him, or placing her hands over his hands to consolidate the embrace.”

“You can tell that her behaviour was an instinctive response because she moved so quickly, with a sudden, jerky motion and her posture appears tense.

“If she was just adjusting her position to be more comfortable, you’d have expected her to move slowly and more sensually, without pulling away from contact with his body.

She added: “This is interesting because body language is mostly subconscious, meaning that we’re not fully aware of what our movements and gestures are revealing. But I’m certain that Dami would have felt her reluctance to accept his hug and noticed the tension in her body. At the start of a relationship, we tend to be sensitive to the way the other person reacts to us, so little moments like this could lead Dami to question whether she’s really on board with him.

“Of course, this is one short clip and we know that there’s a bigger picture at play for the couple. But I can see why fans made meaning from what they observed here.”
