Love Island's Gemma reveals what dad Michael Owen told her before joining ITV show

Love Island star Gemma Owen has revealed what her famous footballer dad Michael Owen told her before entering the ITV2 dating programme.

The 19-year-old beauty will be heading into the villa next week for the beginning of Love Island 2022, which will burst back onto our screens on Monday, June 6.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, Gemma opened up about the one thing her dad told her before going onto the nation’s favourite dating-come-reality show.

When she was asked whether or not she had been given any rules by her parents when it comes to being intimate on TV, she revealed that they didn’t give her any per se, but her dad did tell her one very sweet thing.

Speaking to Daily Star Gemma opened up about the relationship she has with her parents and said: “I think they do trust me. I’ve never given them a reason not to.

“My dad actually said to me ‘I’m not going to tell you what you can and can’t do. It’s up to you. You can make your own decisions.’

“But I’m very close to my family so I wouldn’t do anything that would purposefully disrespect them or embarrass them.”

In 2005 Michael held his baby daughter while walking across the pitch

She then added: “They’ve not said you can and can’t do this but I’m very aware of what they would potentially feel uncomfortable with so I’m going to keep that in mind.”

Chatting to us about heading into the brand spanking new villa, Gemma told us that she thinks her dad will “definitely” be watching the show – despite him never watching it in the past.

Gemma is 19 and will be heading into the villa to find love this summer

“I think he definitely will be watching. He’s never watched the show before.

“He’s obviously seen a few clips but he’s not a Love Island fan, so yeah I think he will be watching,” she revealed.

“He will be supporting. He is very supportive and he trusts me to not do anything to embarrass him or any of the family, so yeah he’s been really supportive which is nice.”

Love Island kicks off on ITV2 at 9pm on Monday, June 6
