Love Island alumni Niall Aslam has explained what was going through his head after he was admitted to a psych ward back in 2018.
The Coventry-born star spent seven days in the famous villa before leaving due to “personal reasons” – later admitting that he was admitted to a psychiatric hospital for two weeks.
Niall who has Asperger Syndrome at the time said he was suffering from hallucinations and lost a grasp on reality.
Taking to TikTok, the star has now shared an insight into what he actually went through with his followers and claimed he thought he went onto another ITV show.
He said: “When I actually got to the psych ward from Love Island, I actually had no idea I was in a psych ward.
“My brain was in full-blown psychosis, so I didn’t have a clue what was going on.
“One of the more rational thoughts I actually had at the time was ‘I’m on a different show, they’ve put me on a different show, I don’t know why’.”
He added: “That being I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! so I go up to the desk and just start screaming ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’
“Turns out I wasn’t, turns out I’d be totally mugged off but you know it was a bit of a sight to behold.”
Niall previously revealed that he was suffering from Harry Potter delusions after his stint on the ITV2 dating programme, telling his followers: “I think it didn’t help that when I was in psychosis, I looked at my arm and there was a literal wand on it.
“To top it off, when I was on Love Island, there was a lot of Harry Potter talk with me, so when I came out of the psychiatric hospital, I was getting people coming up to me saying stuff like ‘You’re a wizard, Niall! I’d be there like ‘I knew I was right!”
Niall continued: “Those Lush bath bombs, I banged them all in the bath because I thought that in Harry Potter when Moaning Myrtle puts the egg in the bath to reveal all these secrets…
“Turns out the bath just goes brown.”
Speaking about why he left Love Island, Niall told his Instagram followers: “What I later found out is that I had something called stress-induced psychosis… I did not know what that was. Essentially what it is, you get so overwhelmed that you lose touch with reality.
“You kind of hallucinate, you don’t know what’s going on, you’re not fully aware of your surroundings, you’re not safe, you need other people to look after you.”
Love Island airs daily on ITV 2 at 9pm and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox.
