Married at First Sight UK series 1 cast now – bitter divorce to cheating scandal

Channel 4’s popular reality show Married at First Sight UK has continued to captivate audiences since it first launched in 2015.

Based on the Danish series of the same name, the programme gives insight into the lives of two strangers who decide to tie the knot on first appearance.

Matched by a panel of experts who consider scientific and sociological factors, the strangers are given the opportunity to find out whether they will sink or swim in their married lives.

And with the popular programme now in its seventh series, many have wondered what happened to the original cast from series one.

Daily Star has taken a look at the couples who were brave enough to take the plunge and whether they are still together.

Emma and James

Although things got off to a rather promising start for Emma Rathbone and her husband James Ord-Hume it sadly didn’t last very long.

Noticing their evident differences at the beginning of the relationship, the couple worked hard to put any complaints they had to one side as they continued to flirt with each other on their wedding day.

But the spark quickly fizzled out when the newlyweds noticed they had no sexual attraction.

After 34 weeks of marriage, Emma and James decided to part ways.

Following the release of the show, the former couple complained that the programme didn’t tell them they were a match without really talking about their ideals.

In 2020, Emma revealed that she believes the show ruined her chances of having a relationship in the future.

She told Daily Mail: “A lot of men have been put off when they find out. There’s definitely a stigma there and some have refused to meet me after they’ve found out.

“Sometimes I feel I can’t win. If I am open about it, some men don’t give me a chance, but keeping it secret until further down the line can be damaging too.

“I had no idea about the long-term effects. When you are taking part, you are not thinking about 10 years down the line,” she explained.

Kate and Jason

Despite being all smiles on their wedding day, Kate Stewart and Jason Knowles hit a bump in the road very early on in their marriage.

During the couple’s honeymoon, the happy newlyweds couldn’t keep their hands off each other as they shared a number of kisses while relaxing in a hot tub.

But although things appeared to be going great, Jason was caught trying to find new love on Twitter days after their romantic wedding ceremony.

The couple quickly filed for divorce where it was discovered that Jason “wilfully” refused to consummate their marriage.

Since their divorce, news emerged that Jason went on to marry his new wife Laura in 2018.

Meanwhile Kate has embarked on work as a personal trainer.

Sam and Jack

Sam and Jack didn’t get married on the show

Sam McDonald and Jack Finn-Kelcey didn’t really follow the rules of the show and decided to ditch the format to find love in their own way.

Initially, Sam refused to marry Jack due to pressures from her family, however the couple decided to give things another go away from the spotlight.

Things were going from strength to strength for the pair as they later decided to tie the knot.

However, just like their fellow co-stars, the romance quickly fizzled out and the pair called off their marriage after four months.

Following on from their brief romance, reports claim that the pair no longer speak but it is believed they both live in London.
