Matt Hancock lands in Australia for I’m A Celebrity as fans vow to 'torture' him

Former Health Secretary Matt Hancock has touched down in Brisbane Airport ahead of his first ever reality TV stint.

The disgraced politician had the whip suspended after agreeing to take part on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, helmed by Ant and Dec.

And fans are predicting a horror stint for the politician, as they have promised to vote him in for every disgusting Bushtucker Trial.

He resigned as Health Secretary under Boris Johnson’s government last year, after leaked CCTV footage showed him kissing his aide Gina Coladangelo in his office – in breach of the Covid-19 regulations he himself had set.

Landing at Brisbane Airport, Matt could be seen sporting a shorter haircut than during his days as Health Secretary, beaming for the cameras as he dressed down in jeans and a white t-shirt.

He added a dark fleece over the ensemble, clutching a baseball cap in one hand.

Asked by waiting Reach press if he was looking forward to entering the jungle, Matt simply replied: “My lips are sealed” – a true politician.

However, in a column written for The Sun, Hancock said the paycheque isn’t the thing drawing him to the ITV experience.

He wrote: “Some may think I’ve lost my marbles or had one too many drinks, swapping the comfortable surroundings of Westminster and West Suffolk for the extreme conditions of the Australian outback.

“There are many ways to do the job of being an MP. Whether I’m in camp for one day or three weeks, there are very few places people will be able to see a politician as they really are.”

He added that politicians are “human” with “hopes and fears”, which he is keen for the voting public to see.

Fans on Twitter have been predicting the horrors that loom for him, with one writing: “Matt Hancock will pay for his PPE [scandal] in that jungle. The UK public are gonna rinse that man!”

As another cackled: “The British public voting for Matt Hancock to do every trial lol!”

One parody account cheekily quipped: “TV bosses clarify Matt Hancock will not be a contestant on I’m A Celebrity. He will actually be one of the challenges!

“Contestants will have to sit in a ‘box of horrors’ containing rats, snakes and Matt Hancock and see how long they can last. This will be truly difficult!”

Matt will be the twelfth contestant to enter the jungle, reportedly as a wildcard.

A source initially revealed: “Matt is a sensational signing for the show as producers love a star with a story to tell – and then always hope they’ll spill the beans round the campfire.

“He’s the latest in a long line of figures from the political sphere, including MP Nadine Dorries, Stanley Johnson and MP Lembit Opik.

“There’s been a question mark over who the twelfth campmate would be, partly because negotiations over Matt going in were so top secret. It seems Matt was a last-minute signing.”

Whether the stint will see him scoffing kangaroo testicles or sitting in a vat of cockroaches isn’t yet known.
