Presenter Matt Lucas has dramatically quit his hosting job on the Great British Bake Off.
The former Little Britain star has said that he can no longer host the competition alongside his other projects.
He co-presents the show alongside fellow comedian Noel Fielding but has recently decided that he must leave GBBO behind.
Lucas wrote a goodbye message to “Noelipops, Paul and Dame Prue” and tweeted his farewell.

He wrote: “Farewell Bake Off! It’s been a delicious experience and I can’t imagine a more fun way of spending my summers. But it’s become clear to me that I can’t present both Fantasy Football League and Bake Off alongside all my other projects. So, after three series and 51 episodes, I am cheerfully passing the baguette on to someone else.”
Lucas continued: “I would like to give my warmest thanks and gratitude to everyone at Love Productions and Channel 4 and to Noelipops, Paul, Dame Prue, the crew and, of course, the wonderful bakers for welcoming me into the tent. I wish whoever takes over the very best and I can’t wait to tune into the next series without already knowing who won!”
Fans and friends gathered to share their disappointment at the news.
The official Specsavers account joked that the “bottom of their eyes were soggy” while Kat Robichaud said that he was a “lovely addition to the show”.
David Angelo congratulated him for “doing a great job” while one fan “thanked him for the memories”.
Another sad follower also tweeted: “Nooooooo! But fair enough. Pleased for you that you’re so busy but it was great having you on Bake Off. All the best for your future projects and put in a good word for me with Paul. Now to see Saka with the World Cup and Odegaard with the Premier League trophy!”
Lucas has been on the baking show since 2020 and took over from previous presenters Mel Giedroyc, Sue Perkins and Sandi Toksvig.
Paul Hollywood is still on the panel, joined by Prue Leith who took over from the nation’s sweetheart Mary Berry back in 2017 when the show moved to Channel 4.
