Mel C's wild life – Robbie Williams 'fling', saving brother and sexuality admission

Mel C is best known for her part in The Spice Girls where she was specifically known as Sporty Spice but since then she’s managed to create her own successful solo career.

The singer first found fame in the girl band back in 1994 and has been a fan favourite ever since.

The 47 year old began her solo career in 1998 when she released her first single with Bryan Adams but has since reunited with the other Spice Girls.

Mel has had an interesting personal life during this time, welcoming her daughter Scarlet in 2009 which she admitted to be a turning point in her life.

Some memorable moments for Mel include saving her brother’s life, opening up about her sexuality and dating Robbie Williams.

Saving her brother’s life

Mel saved her brother’s life

During a family holiday to Mauritius back in 2004, Mel realised something with her brother Paul O’Neill wasn’t quite right and decided to question him further.

She noticed Paul wasn’t his usual loud, bubbly self so knew something had to be wrong.

The singer managed to save her brother from a coma as his symptoms of extreme thirst and constantly needing the toilet ended up being type 1 diabetes.

Mel noticed the similar symptoms when one of the Spice Girls’ office staff was diagnosed with the disease not long before but hoped this wasn’t what Paul had as well.

At the time Paul was a successful race car driver and being diagnosed with diabetes meant that he had to surrender his racing licence until he could show six months of stable blood sugar levels.

Paul had to spend a whole week in hospital to learn how to manage the condition.

He went on to race for three more years after the diagnoses and then swapped this for a coaching and television career.

Robbie Williams romance

Mel dated fellow pop star Robbie Williams back in the 1990s for around a month when they were both at the height of their fame.

However, she shut down claims that Robbie had slept with all but one of the Spice Girls.

Robbie also enjoyed a holiday romance with Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell when he said he only had ‘one left’ to have been with all of the band members.

Mel told Closer magazine: “Victoria asked me about that and said ‘Well I know I’ve not slept with him.’ And I know Emma’s not slept with him.

“I’d like to ask Robbie about this because, to my knowledge, there are a few of the Spice Girls he didn’t sleep with.”

Speculation came down to Scary Spice Melanie Brown who had a four-year-romance with Robbie’s best friend, actor Max Beesley, Posh Spice Victoria, who married David Beckham in 1999 and Baby Spice Emma Bunton, who had been in an on-off relationship with singer Jade Jones.

Mel has said that during her career she has always has people speculate about her sexuality but she has never given it much thought herself.

However, she’s said she doesn’t mind people talking about it as she feels very much a part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Speaking to Closer magazine, Mel explained: “I have friends who have only got to know me later on and they’re like, “There was no question in my mind that you were a lesbian.

“It’s so funny, I’ve had lesbians say to me, ‘You are a lesbian,’ and I’m like, ‘I’m so confused, I don’t think I am, but maybe I am?’ I don’t give it much thought.”

She then went on to say there have been times she ‘wished’ she was a lesbian.

Mel is now in a relationship with music executive Joe Marshall but the pair tend to keep their five year relationship under wraps.

Ripped abs

Mel C showed off her very buff bod in some steamy snaps

Even over 20 years after Spice Girls’ split, Mel C has stayed true to her Sporty Spice alter-ego and recently showed off her ripped body.

Stripping down to a very skimpy leotard, Mel looked incredible as she struck a pose after a steamy workout.

She was seen in front of an assortment of gym equipment after working hard in a sweaty session, sending her fans wild with the very toned display.

Mel also opened up about her body since she hit her 40s, telling Your Healthy Living: “Yes, since I turned 40 everything has gone wrong! Joking aside, when I was competing last year I was the fittest I had ever felt – I felt great.

“But my body is older, so it is harder getting up in the mornings, and I do tire a bit more easily. It also takes me longer to recover, and I feel I’m a bit more susceptible to injuries.

“That’s what being 40 has done to me, but it represents a new mental challenge, and I’m glad of that.”
