Former Liberty X member Michelle Heaton has released a message on Instagram thanking her observant fans for potentially saving her life.
The 42 year old singer sought out medical advice last month under the guidance of some fans who noticed something rather unusual about the shape of her breasts.
The comments and suggestions led Michelle to realise that her breast implants were ruptured,
10 years ago, Heaton underwent a double mastectomy and breast reconstruction after she discovered she was at an 85 per cent chance of having breast cancer.
She has recently begun the process of getting her implants removed due to the rupture and admitted she has experienced a ‘rollercoaster of emotions’ since it began.
Fans spotted the problem last year after a video of Michelle was shared online, promoting a magazine shoot she was part of.
She thanked her ‘eagle eyed readers’ who messaged her online after the video was posted and urged her to contact a medical professional.
Heaton wrote on Instagram: “I am excited to be sharing a positive update on my reconstruction.”
“As some of you know. It’s coming up to 10 years since I had a double mastectomy and reconstruction which I had as there was an 85% of getting breast cancer in my thirties due to the BRCA2 gene I carry.”
“They confirmed there was a serious risk my breast implants had ruptured.”
She continued to explain her journey so far, reassuring fans that she had been in contact with a private specialist to get her implants removed.
A grateful Michelle continued: “’I cannot thank every single one of those comments enough, for drawing my attention to get this sorted. “
“Although I had suspected something, as I’ve not got any feeling in that area, I wasn’t as alarmed as I should have been.”
“I’ll keep you all updated and continue to support our wonderful NHS, but at a time they are under tremendous pressure, I’m happy to be one less person they have to worry about.”
Back in December Michelle also shared the news that she was on a waiting list for a specialist under advice from her GP.
They told the mother-of-two that she may need another reconstructive surgery, something the star said she is ‘not looking forward to’, but after struggling with alcohol she will be ‘facing this one sober’ during her addiction recovery.
