Most shocking Strictly Come Dancing exits from Peter Andre to Emmerdale star

BBC’s popular reality show Strictly Come Dancing has kicked off with a bang for another spectacular year.

The Saturday night programme which sees celebrities team up with choreographers to compete in a ballroom and Latin dance competition, has kept viewers hooked since it first aired in 2004.

But although the show offers stand-out entertainment, it can often hit headlines for the wrong reasons when an unlikely celeb is booted off earlier than expected.

And with fans hoping to see their favourite celebs make it to the final, many are left disappointed when they depart from the show prematurely.

With seething fans already sharing their annoyance over this year’s contestant Kaye Adams’ early exit, Daily Star has taken a look at the most shocking departures from the show.

Kaye Adams

During this year’s first dance off, Loose Women’s Kaye Adams and her partner Kai Widdrington landed themselves in the bottom two.

But viewers were left feeling confused as they strongly believed Kaye wasn’t the worst of the bunch.

Kaye was up against Matt Goss and his professional dance partner Nadiya Bychkova who was later chosen by the judges to dance another week in the competition.

However, disappointed fans headed straight Twitter to air their grievances regarding the shock decision.

One viewer penned: “I wasn’t expecting Kaye and Kai to leave first, gutted for them tbh, I was expecting it to be Tony and Matt or Tony and the guy from EastEnders (forgot his name) in the dance off first tbh.”

Meanwhile another echoed: “Really gutted for Kaye and Kai.”

Aston Merrygold

JLS band member Aston Merrygold left viewers disheartened when he was booted off the show in week seven.

Due to his dance background and previously appearing as a judge on Sky’s Got To Dance, many were hopeful that Aston would make it to the final of Strictly when he appeared on the show in 2017.

But many were left shocked when Aston landed himself in the bottom two alongside his dance partner Janette Manrara.

In the dance off, the singer faced The Saturday’s Mollie King.

The judges were split with who they wanted to send home, leaving head judge Shirley Ballas to make the final choice, choosing Mollie as the contestant to face another week in the show.

Peter Andre

Just like Aston, Mysterious Girl singer Peter Andre was tipped to go far in the ballroom competition due to his previous dance and performance experience.

Despite the fact that he dominated the Strictly headlines at the start of the series, Peter failed to go the distance and became the 9th elimination on the show in 2015.

As he left the competition, Peter said: “It’s been nothing but joy and we’ve come so far. Like I said before there’s no shame in leaving. I love everybody.”

While his dance partner Janette added: “I definitely made a friend for life. We got on straight away. He worked so hard in rehearsals. I love you and I’m so glad to have you as a part of my life.”

Vick Hope

In 2018, presenter Vick Hope got off to a promising start during her time on the BBC competition.

Showcasing her killer dance moves, Vick appeared to be improving each week when she took to the stage.

But things came to an abrupt halt when she danced her Cha Cha Cha routine alongside her professional dance partner Graziano Di Prima.

Scoring only 20 points on the night, the broadcaster knew she was in trouble and later landed herself in the bottom two, where she ended up losing against her rivals Seann Walsh and his partner Katya Jones.

Vick was the fourth contestant to be eliminated that year.

Danny John-Jules

Red Dwarf actor Danny John-Jules surprised fans when he took to the dance floor as he clearly had spectacular twinkle toes.

The star flew through the competition, earning the first ten in the 2018 series.

However as the public appeared to be behind him, his glory wasn’t to last during his dance-off against cricketer Graeme Swann, following a week of bad press that Danny suggested had been rooted in racism.

When Danny left the show, he decided to not take part in BBC spin off programme, It Takes Two.

A year later, the actor also claimed that the BBC had deliberately leaked fabricated stories about him to the press which the broadcaster denied.

Catherine Tyldesley

Former Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley certainly had the British public behind her when she appeared on the show in 2019.

The talented stage performer impressed fans and judges but she unfortunatley faced a crisis when she was faced with BBC presenter Mike Bushell in the dance off during week five.

As Mike was considered to be the “novelty act” of the series, fans were left annoyed that head judge Shirley decided to save him over Catherine, which lead to controversy and seething fans on Twitter.
